kidsmoke Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Ok, here's one of those topics which is bound to generate some discussion. Obviously, no right or wrong answers. If you were relocating to a desert island for all of eternity, and were given the opportunity to bring only one electric guitar, and you had to select between a 150 and a 535, which would you choose, and why? We won't worry about what amp you would bring.....yet.

Plus 150 types are ass-end heavy, and don't balance on my knee well when seated. Little nick-pick, I know. I really do prefer my 535 to my LP, though, sonically as well as feel/visual appeal.
pegleg32 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 There is no logical way to choose between these two, you must have both. I would just refuse to go!!!
FredZepp Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 it's cool that the island has electricity.... I thought that I'd have to go acoustic. It's a tough choice.. I don't own a 535, but I like semi hollows and appreciate their tone. I generally like the smaller body on the solidbody guitars for comfort... so I'll take a 150.

I should have added a third option....death! oh, and lets just say there is a solar powered generator in a soundproof enclosure on the island.

Fred, are you serious, NO 535 with all the guitars you own?! OK, OK, don't panic, we've finally gotten Yoslate to "see the light," we'll just have to work on you next.... SHEESH!! P.S. Gorgeous 150, BTW.
yoslate Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 This would have been a helluva lot easier day before yesterday...!
H Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I'd go for the 150, it would make a stronger paddle for my boat

I have usually gone solidbody electric or acoustic ( I have a bunch of those) . I would like to have an acoustic on the deserted island also... if I may. I need some new pics with the new tailpiece on the 150.. it does photograph well in sunlight.
Blunote Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Neither. I'd take my Millie...it's the best of both worlds.
Kuz Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 There is no logical way to choose between these two, you must have both. I would just refuse to go!!! +100000000000000000000

Come on guys, I understand the predicament, but that's the point. Try to seriously put yourself in that position, especially yous guys that actually have both. If you HAD to pick one, ludicrous as that seems, which would it be? It's only a poll, an exercise, if your other guitars find out what you chose, you can just tell them it was my fault......you know, like back in high school "I was just holding it for my friend"
brentrocks Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 H150...all the moisture and humidity would get inside the F holes, it would be a mess
MichYank Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 535, though a tough call. You can't beat the versitility of the beast. Who know, if given the free time I might even learn some country or western. =)
Kuz Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 OK, oh crap........... my Greeny 150....... (running away weeping and sobbing )
kidsmoke Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 OK, oh crap........... my Greeny 150....... (running away weeping and sobbing ) Dude, I know that was hard. Thank you. That's quite a statement given your harem.
TalismanRich Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Ok, it's neck and neck! I have to say the 535. Got both (ok, it's a 157) and of the two, the 535 gets at least 3 times as much play, followed by the Milli and 140. Great for sitting in the lazy boy strumming away in the evening, unobstructed access to the upper frets, and it sounds great plugged in too. So, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT IT!
Halowords Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Like most I was wondering first, do we have electricity (much less an amp), and how the desert would effect the semi-hollow with the f-holes. Presuming those would not get in the way . . . Probably the 535, just to cover more range and play makeshift acoustic. That said, flip a coin. As long as I had one I'd be happy.
zguitar71 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 The 535 is the most versatile guitar out there, so that is my choice. + if you are all alone and eventually forget how to play or all the strings break and you have no more or the neck breaks when you are opening coconuts with it ect.... then it could be used like a boogie board in the surf.
Gitfiddler Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Desert Island? Definitely my fat neck 535 Goldtop. I would probably be rescued however, since the reflection of that huge goldtop could easily be used to signal a plane passing overhead.
pushover Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I can't play along with this farce.. If it's a desert island, it means there won't be any power for my amp, and it means having an electric guitar wouldn't work well. Now... from one perspective that would probably be a good thing for my fellow castaways, but I'd have to vote for an acoustic on this desert island. I know.. I know.. I'm no fun.. just ask my kids! But why ask a question that just defies the laws of physics.. Might as well ask, who/where I'd go visit if I had a time machine? But I guess.. if somehow the lack of power issue magically went away, and I had my superconducting salt water powered amplifier with me and it was between a 150 and a 535, I'd choose the 535 for versatilities sake. Then again, if I was open to anything, I'd probably bring the milli-DC over the 535, since it's more comfortable for me to hold/play.
kbp810 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I'd have to go with a 535... that way I can play acoustically until I can figure out how to make a kick-ass amp out of coconuts!
pressure Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Megan Fox would be my choice. Hey this is a fantasy poll right.
schundog Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I'd have to go with a 535... that way I can play acoustically until I can figure out how to make a kick-ass amp out of coconuts! C'mon, look at all the crap the Professor on Gilligan's Island invented!! HMM, makes you wonder why he couldn't just fix the ship's radio and get rescued....My guess is he had something going on with Ginger, and that would end if they got rescued...
