Hfan Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Back in the day I had one of these and a cry baby. Was about all there was. And for a tuner I had a tuning fork. With all the choices out there today the tone search can be endless I suppose. Seriously, I've been buying various pedals used on craigs list, tend to play around with them for a day or two and then start playing clean through my amp again with a little reverb. They are a blast though. One day I will put together a proper set up. [/img]
pegleg32 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I'm wondering if anyone thinks this pedal is interesting, or maybe just wierd?
JeffB Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I'm wondering if anyone thinks this pedal is interesting, or maybe just wierd? Interesting to me for about 20seconds out of about 160 minutes.
jjkrause84 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I use: Wah (only sometimes) > Fulltone OCD > TC Jauernig Gristle King, v. 3 > MXR Carbon Copy delay > Psilocybe phaser > clean Marshall-esque amp of some description.

Mind if I sneak a question in while the pedal people are around here? I have a few pedals without ac adapters. Is it ok to use a generic ac adapter as long as the dc voltage rating is correct. Any need to worry about matching the amperage rating of the pedal? I checked out the Boss site and of course they recommend their adapters. Thanks

I'd suggest getting a One Spot. It can handle up to seven pedals. And you can get a daisy chain (more connectors) to run with it. The worst pedals I've seen for needing dedicated adapters are ElectroHarmonix (no more of those for me!) and Line6. Most others follow the BOSS standard. Well, there are 12v and 18v pedals, as well. Just check the label on the pedal.

bobmeyrick Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Here's my current gigging pedal setup: Korg Pitchblack tuner -> Ernie Ball Wah -> Fulltone Deja Vibe -> Hermida Zendrive 2 -> Fulltone Supa-Trem -> Redwitch Empress Chorus -> Tech 21 Boost DLA. George L patch leads, apart from the leads to the wah. The pedals are mounted on a Pedaltrain Junior with a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 mounted underneath. All of this, apart from the Zendrive, has come from Hot Rox (http://www.hotroxuk.com/) and if any UK members are in the Nottingham area it's worth paying a visit. The phrase "kid in a candy store" springs to mind... The usual gigging amp is a Mesa Maverick 1x12 combo. For smaller gigs I sometimes use a Korg AX1500G into a Blues Junior. Incidentally, a while back someone started a thread about digital field recorders, and I've used a Zoom H4 to record my band's most recent gig. You can hear the result here - http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Pete-Donaldson-Blues-Band/163762693673283. Not having any video footage of the band I used some photos of the gig to cobble together a video presentation! If the link doesn't work, just search for "The Pete Donaldson Blues Band".
FredZepp Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I'm wondering if anyone thinks this pedal is interesting, or maybe just weird? ... Yes. Weird .. and interesting.
pegleg32 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I just bought a Fender Eric Johnson Strat and while studying strats I came across this video that shows Eric Johnsons rig. Very instructive vid and interesting to watch:

You have to make sure the amp output matches the pedal if you buy an individual power supply (which is some cases, for a few more dollars, might as well buy a One Spot!).

Can you try fixing it and uploading the link again, please? Also, nice rig you have there - would be great to see a pic of it.

koula901 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hey!! Do you guys want a pedal section? Who do I contact? Administrator?
Halowords Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I've got: * MXR Dyna Comp Compressor that I never use * Boss DS-1 that I never use * Fulltone OCD Overdrive that I used all the time but has strangely gone missing** I usually just plug my guitar straight into the Marshall Vintage Modern, put it to the high dynamic range, and use my guitar volume(s) as a boost from clean to overdrive. Done. That said, I have a BBE Soul Vibe coming, want a chorus pedal, delay pedal, kind of want a Wah (not a huge fan, but they have their uses), am interested in a Rotovibe as a maybe, and mainly want my OCD back from wherever it went off to. Other than that, I'm not too much of a pedal guy. I do have to ask, do most of you just set up a pedal for one sound and leave it, or do you adjust it at all for certain songs, venues, or if you get kind of bored with the sound and want to switch it up a bit? ** How does an overdrive pedal just turn up missing? It might have gotten lost during our move or my daughter might have moved it, but still.
koula901 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Halowords, Those fulltone pedals are expensive. I hope you find it. On adjusting pedals - I usually just find the settings I like, i.e. my favorite overtone setting, my favoriet distortion, and delay, and just leave them there; stomp on them when I need them. Ideally, I like a 2-channel amp, use one for the clean tone, set the other one up for gain.

It's use is dependent on the venue and song. And guitar. I generally have "a setting" that I like in all of my pedals. Once I find my sweet spot I mark the position, since carrying them around in the soft case with all the other clutter in there, the knobs get moved.

It still sucks since it's the only one I use(d) all the time. Great idea marking the knobs. Not sure why I didn't think of that. Hey, don't you have a BBE pedal coming? I'm pretty excited for mine.
GuitArtMan Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Just ordered one of these: http://www.freekishblues.com/AlphaDrive.html Dang, if it cops 95% of the tone of a $3000+ amp for $169 I'm in!

Hfan Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 FWIW, just had the thought that for someone behind the times gear wise (like me) it could take so much time to find that right combination that there would be no time to actually play.

Koula, I find that when I'm logged in to Facebook and search for "Pete Donaldson Blues Band" it takes me to the page. Give that a try if you're on Facebook. Failing that, I'll have to find another way to access the video. There should be a picture of the pedals attached to my post...

You can find the OCD for about $80 or less if you look.

It'll be good for the home music room. Don't think it's pedal board worthy. Well, not for me. What did you request?
