donnie Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Hey guys, I still intend to post pics tomorrow but in the meantime if anyone has time to answer a couple of Prospect case questions, here goes: I thought the Prospect was slightly thinner than an H535, but while my new H535 case is just under 4" thick when closed, my Prospect case is 4-1/2" thick. Is this as it should be for some reason? Secondly, one of the closure clasps on the new Prospect case is way too loose to stay shut when closed. Is there any way to re-tension the clasp? Thanks guys.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Just measured my cases ... '07 535 - 4" thick '96 535 - 5" thick '01 Prospect - 4 1/2" thick
tulk1 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 No clue on your clasp. Sorry. But on the case, it's probably due to manufacturing tolerances. The cases are TKL. So it probably has more to do with how they are being made than what guitar they are made for.
Telenic Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I received my Prospect about six weeks ago and it came in a Samick case. I would have complained but the case was really nice, better than a TKL and it fit the guitar perfectly. I also thought the guitar would be less vulnerable to theft if it had the Samick logo instead of the Heritage logo.

Oh, and did I miss pics of your Prospect?
Telenic Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 A new from the factory Prospect in a Samick case? Oh, and did I miss pics of your Prospect? It wasn't new from the factory, it was new old stock and had been sitting at a dealer for awhile.

Got to wonder what he did with the original case, then, eh? Not like there are a lot of guitars that'll fit that case. But, as long as you're happy with what you got, thats what is important.

The guitar is about 4 years old, but it was sold to me as new, (but for a really good price). The case could have been lost any number of ways. I was a little skeptical about it being new, and even if it were used it would have still been a good price. When I got it there wasn't a single piece of evidence that it had ever been touched, no scratches, buckle rash, smudges, oxidation, etc..

Your explanation of the different case sounds like a plausible scenerio. Also, it sounds like you made a good score with your Prospect. When available, buying NOS is a great way to go, as you're buying a new guitar but getting a better price because it has been overlooked for no good reason, and sat on the dealer's shelf. I bought my H-150 that way.
donnie Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Sounds like the end of the story may be near. TKL said they'd fix it but I had to ship it to them, so I called Graham who called Heritage. So today I get a call from Bill (Paige I suppose?) who said soon as they get some in he'll send one my way and figure out how to get UPS to pick up my old one. While he was on the phone I had a quick technical question and he said Ren could answer better, so here he comes to the phone-and would have talked as long as I needed but I tried to be respectful. I guess I'm still seething a bit from that asinine thread over at TGP, but I'll tell you I wanna be around when you make that call to Gibson and two of the owners help with your problem. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but guys, we have a national treasure on our hands.
tulk1 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Isn't that just the coolest thing? Don't want to be holding no breathe when that same call is made to Gibs, for sure!
