big bob Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I just now got done shooting the first coat of lacquer on the back of the 140. Man is my heart racing. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time... This is defiantly why I do it.. Photos to come
Assumer Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Make sure you take photos of each stage so we can see the progression.
schundog Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I'm not worried, Lance; it ain't like you're a virgin...you know, with the guitar thing....
mark555 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 it ain't like you're a virgin...you know, with the guitar thing.... I am....
DetroitBlues Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Sweet! Glad to see others don't mind changing up their guitars a little bit...
skydog52 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Bet it will be real shiny! How long does it take for that stuff to cure?
big bob Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 So did you refinish the back? I did not refinish. the old finish is what will stay. but in order to wet sand out the buckle dents I must make the finish thicker while also getting new finish into the divots. So I shot three coats of new clear nitro over the old nitro and also into the old divots, now I will effectively sand most of the new finish off leaving only new finish in the low spots/divots rinse and repeat.. eventually the finish will be smooth and rash free, then I will shoot a coat of new nitro over the whole guitar so the finish will be thick enough for me to buff out. In theory an old Heritage finish with a new shiny top coat. Sorry guys no good pictures, it's hard to shoot a dark back and have anything show up.. I'll get some soon I hope. Here are a couple of shitey cell pics

tulk1 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Bob, Where did you learn to do this stuff. I would have no clue. You need to see his paper/cellulous guitar. Friggin' awesome!!! B2 (Lanceroneous to some) has some mad skills!
big bob Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Bob, Where did you learn to do this stuff. I would have no clue. I did go through 7 years of art school, Oh and get two degrees, and then teach art for quite a few years before I was laid off..
big bob Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 So I got her sanded down, still a ways to go but overall coming along..
kbp810 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Looking good Big Bob! Nitro is cool stuff in the way it fills and auto levels itself, I bet it turns out great!
