strings Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 hey, new to site, not new to guitars. had a gibson es 175, long way back , sold it. play asat's now, wonderfully unrated guitars. i would guess that the heritage line is in a similiar vein, so to speak. been looking toward a heritage for my next purchase. the groovemaster looks pretty good, and its affordable for me , used, or maybe a 575 with a single p.u.? does the g-master have some acoustic presence given its lami top? the 575 i read is carved, better unplugged sound, more feedback maybe? i would play some, nothing here in the detroit area. any comments , or opinion's would be appreciated. oh yeah, is golden age music, a fair place to buy? thanks in advance

You will find many G&L fans here too. Can't give you any guidance on the groovemaster or 575, neither of which I have. but you are sure to get your answer. never heard of golden age but I bought a Millie H155 from Music Castle in Royal Oak. Good guys there, occasionally they will get other used Heritages. Lots of other HOCrs in the area too. take care, chico
eor Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 while i don't own either of the guitars you asked about, i own some that are similar in construction. both a lam top and solid top (575 style) are more than plenty for playing unplugged on the couch or whatever. but technically, they aren't acoustics, so i wouldn't use them unamplified live, or with a band. in neither context would i expect them to ever sound anything like a martin, or taylor or what have you. a big giant archtop with a floating pickup is something altogether different. i get a much, much better amplified "acoustic" tone through mine than i do from a "real" acoustic with a sound hole or piezo pickup. and they are pretty loud unplugged, too. project like hell. though the heritage offerings may be out of your price range, unless you get lucky in the used market. either kind can feedback if you want it to, the "electric" ones (especially the lam top) less so than an archtop. volume, gain and proximity to the amp seeming to be the biggest factors here. neither gives me a problem for jamming at home at slightly above reasonable volumes. then again, it could be that i'm misunderstanding your questions altogether.

If you are looking for a small bodied jazz box with tons of acoustic tones, check out the 525 and even the 530 models. They are laminate, full hollow with Lollar P90's. 575's would work as well and can be ordered with a single p'up. I've bought from Golden Age and was satisfied with the service and pricing. Tim
