Eagle Classic vs Golden Eagle

I am looking to replace my 575 with an pre-loved eagle. Trying to determine what the tonal differences are between the classic and GE. Construction seems to be the same. There is not a lot of info on the classic, so I am just going by what i see on the product pages for both. Before I got my 575 I had an Eastman AR810, and while the 575 is far superior tonally and comfort wise, 1 11/16 nut vs 1 3/4 on the Eastman. I miss the acoustic ability of the 810.

There may be no tonal difference. Some Classics have the Floating #3 pickup and some GEs have parallel bracing with mounted pups.

In general the Classic tends to have mounted pups. But it really is hard to generalize.

The woods are the same, although some with say the prettier woods go into the GE.

I don't see how you could go wrong either way.

Sounds like its going to boil down to what kind of music do you plan on playing? Jazz/Blues or Blues/Rock? I'd say the ones with a floating pu for Jazz and the mounted pup's for blues and rock....

I think the GE is going to be the closest to an Eastman with the carved spruce top and floating pup. Definitely better for acoustic volume and probably tone. The Classic, as I understand it, is more like an L5CES or a 17" version of my twin pup Super Eagle. If possible, I'd try to find an X-braced GE (I think the stock set up is parallel like an L5C). Another option, if you prefer the size of the 575, would be a Sweet 16. Either way, you can't lose.

Two of my GEs had mounted pups, one with parallel and one with cross bracing. Another GE had cross bracing and a floating pup.

One of my Classics had parallel bracing and one had cross bracing, the former with mounted pups and the latter, floating.

You see, Eagles are like a box of chocolates.....

The set in pickup guitars will have parrallel bracing due to the hole routed into the top to accomidate the pickups, the X bracing would be cut out during the routing process.

My Eagle classic has a floater and is x-braced. It was custom ordered through Wolfe --not sure whether he spec-ed it out, or whether the original owner designed it. It is very resonant, which means good acoustic volume, but also a strong tendency to feed back: such nice acoustic tone, in fact, even with flatwounds, that I think I'll eventually remove the pickup, replace the pickguard, and fit it into my accumulation as an acoustic archtop. I know a purpose-made acoustic archtop would probably have a thinner top, but, since I'm unlikely to have to compete unamplified with a big band, I think it has plenty of 'umph for my purposes.

Great info thanks. Sounds like what I need to be looking for is definitely a floating pup with cross bracing. If I can afford to step up to the GE and get a carved top all the better. When I am ready I will post a WTB and maybe check with Wolfe see what he's got.

The GE and Classic have carved spruce tops. Both are made of the same woods.

Hope it turns out to be everything you wanted and more!

The L5 Ces is a mighty Jazz / Big Bang/ Combo trio Box ... No worries there. The 575 or Es 175, Single pickup is a Really round sounding box with little sensitivity to unwanted feed back. My answer would be to have both. the Sweet 16 does have a certain Quick feeling reponce, strong construction, Comphy size and one good sound.........IMHO Stephen The sweet !6 does sound clear acoustically, but I never go any where with out my Fender Twin / or Fender Concert
