Guest HRB853370 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Was thinking about Ron's lovely 357 again and wondering how long Heritage will continue to make those upon custom order. Isn't Marv the key person with that guitar? If he ever retires (no please don't Marv) will the successors still be able to make one? Maybe I should start dealer shopping now...........
brentrocks Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 if you want one i wouldnt wait....nobody knows how long Marv will continue to make them.
MartyGrass Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I agree with Brent- don't wait. But I will add that the sooner you get it, the longer you'll enjoy it. My hope is that Heritage will continue to make fine guitars for a very long time. But there's something about getting your custom directly from the hands of those who put together classics for decades.
yoslate Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 AGAIN: Brent's 357 is just remarkable! Haven't had a whack at Bird's nor skydog's52's, but if they're anywhere close to Brent's, they're fabulous!
DetroitBlues Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I'd like one of those too, but I'll have no choice but to wait...
High Flying Bird Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Come on Will, get your Stephen Stills on.....
Spectrum13 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 357 would be my pick for "most collectable". Marv was at Gibson 6 years before the Firebirds came out and if he was line leader shaping necks during the the redesign who would know better how to choose the right wood and build a stable neckthrough? Limited production and the hands of the master.
kidsmoke Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Kind of related to this.... Does anyone know if the 79 to 84 Gibson RD's were made in K-Zoo, or Nashville. Very similar to the 357....

I did a quick search on RD serial numbers. The ones that were posted from '77 to '81 were K-zoo made based on the serial numbers that I found.
koula901 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I'd like one of those too, but I'll have no choice but to wait... ditto!
tulk1 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Better pic Hard to tell from the pics. And I don't really recall - did you get mini-hums in that bird? Trade you a white guitar for it ......................
MartyGrass Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Better pic Paul, what finish is that work of art?
skydog52 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hard to tell from the pics. And I don't really recall - did you get mini-hums in that bird? Trade you a white guitar for it ...................... SD 59s Kenny. You have me thinking about that.
skydog52 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Paul, what finish is that work of art? Hey Mark, Marv called that Cherryburst. I told him I wanted it the color of the one hanging to the left of the Heritage sign in shop.
ledzef Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Wonder if they would make a bass version of the 357?
DetroitBlues Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 they are worth every penny... Whoa! Hold the phone! What's the story behind that one? I love the almost herringbone wood grain on it!
