Doug Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I think she looks real sexy all splayed out on the old couch downstairs, with her underside all exposed like this.
kidsmoke Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 That is a beautiful guitar, but I'm not sure that stand is good for the nitrocellulose finish. Can't tell for sure from the pics, but looks suspicious. It's a Hercules, holds by the neck and the binding rests against the legs.....concerns? I'll have to get a photo with the 535 in it...but this is a full frontal. I'm all ears, if there's an issue with the padding, lemme know.
Flat Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I've got a Hercules stand just like that, and it hasn't caused a problem. BUT, I've also got a 5-guitar rack by QuikLok, and my fellow Heritage owners should take note: A couple months ago I noticed the binding on my Heritage 535 and 575 had yellowed conspicuously, but just in places where the binding contacted the stand (around the 6th fret on one side, and at around 5 and 7 o'clock on the lower bout, front and back). I'm lucky to own about 13 guitars (PRS, Gibsons, Martins, Sadowsky, Guild, Tokai, Carvin) and the funny thing is that only the Heritage guitars were affected. Many of the other guitars are fairly old, like 20 to 40 years old--so maybe the finish had cured enough on the older guitars to avoid damage--I don't know. I sanded down the yellowed parts with superfine sand paper. It cleaned up easily and all is fine now. And I covered every contact point on the rack with cork padding, so I think it should be okay. But please take care if you have a QuikLok rack and a Heritage. Great racks, but something in the padding doesn't seem to like Heritage binding, or the finish on the binding. -Flat

Hey Kidsmoke, as Flat mentioned, there are certain rubber materials that react badly with nitrocelulose finishs. I'm actually not sure which is which, but it might be worth further research. I'm sure there are others on here who are more familiar than I. Having said that, your stand may be just fine, I just wouldn't want something to happen to that lovely Heritage.
