enordlund Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Well this guitar has been my first experience with Heritage, and I still love playing it as much as the day I got it. Here's a video of me playing it! I don't want this to come off like an advertisement, but this video also happens to be for a contest, so if you'd like to go to the youtube page and give it a "thumbs up", and support the only Heritage in the running, I would really appreciate it! I plan on becoming a relatively frequent member of the forum, so don't think I'm just sharing the video for publicity. I'd love to hear any feedback as well! Thanks, Erik
Dasherdave Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Nice bluesy playing and congratulations on the nice looking 535!! Welcome to the HOC, you will get a lot out of it if you stick around, I guarantee it!
H Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Nice playing Erik, liked the shift into the woman tone a lot Welcome to the HOC
big bob Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Welcome, nice looking guitar. Great playing as well good luck with the contest.
schundog Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Congrats on the 535, they are awesome guitars. I think your video highlights just how versatile they are. Good luck with your contest, but win or lose, you've got a great guitar future ahead of you!
pegleg32 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Very nice. That's a nice sounding and looking 535. Can you tell us about the contest?
TalismanRich Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Nice playing, Erik. Love the phrasing. Very nice tone. Which amp did you use for the recording?
enordlund Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 Wow, thank you everybody! The contest is held by Guitar World and Dunlop, and the entry must be based on the riff in this video: As you can tell if you watched the video, the prize is a nice wah pedal. The winner is the person with the most thumbs up on their video, and I'm currently in second place to this guy: Here's the link to my video if you would like to vote for me As for my setup, I was playing through a Catalinbread Formula No 5, which went into my Twin Reverb, and then I daisy chained it with my Egnater Tweaker, which goes into the bottom 2x12 with 2 Tone Tubby ceramic San Rafael speakers. I really love the sound I get from those two amp put together! I mic'ed it with an SM57 sitting about 2.5 feet back. It's really nice to see that there is a welcoming community here! Thank you again, Erik
FredZepp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Nice Vid and guitar. I just gave you a couple of thumbs up...
chico Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Nice playing Erik, welcome to the HOC. Look forward to more from you. gave you a thumbs up too.
kidsmoke Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 dude...seriously? NO contest. You did much more with it, to my sensibilities. Nicely done. You got my vote.
JeffB Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I dont like the other guy's sunglasses or guitar. Nah, nice playing. Hope you win. Gave you a thumbs up.
enordlund Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 Wow, thank you everybody! It's definitely getting closer thanks to you guys
yoslate Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Erik, sorry, I don't think you have a chance. The other musician had it all over you with his understated playing. He revealed a charming melodic sensibility, playing well inside the changes of that particular tune. His playing was a testimony to the art of leaving space in a solo, letting the tune breathe, giving the listener just a chance to absorb the harmonic subtleties of his impeccable phrasing. And that wonderful woody tone one can get only with a spruce top gave a clarity to his playing which allowed us to appreciate the subtle voicings of those beautifully arpeggiated passages and the intricacies of the chord soloing in that middle sixteen. I heard Jim Hall, Kessel, and a hint of Wes in his playing. Your workmanlike approach to the tune was admirable, especially in consideration of the limitations of your instrument. But the other player's restraint and taste, not to mention cutting edge eyewear, show him to be clearly the superior artist. Best wishes for you in your development as a guitarist....
