barrymclark Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 is it a byrdland scale or 24.75" ? Any other info? Looks like 24.75". Groovemaster on the Heritage site.
sheetsofsound Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 Thanks. I thought I read that it was 23.5 like the birdland.
ingeneri Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 The Groovemaster was the 1st Heritage I ever bought. They had the fire after my order (in 2007) so the guitar was delayed a year and my Super Eagle ended up being my actual 1st Heritage. Tough to to top a Super! Like a 575, the Groovemaster is 16" wide and 2.75" deep with a maple top. Unlike the 575 it's a laminate and, more importantly, has a center strip (though not a full block) under the top. The TOM bridge is mounted to this strip. The Groovemaster was flawless, but I found it played much more like a semi than an archtop. Probably because of the center strip under the top. This may sound odd to many, but I just found it sustained too much. I wanted that hard plunk of an archtop. So, I sold the Groovemaster and got a 575. Much more what I was looking for in terms of a 16" wide 24.75" scale maple box. Jazzpunk ended up briefly owning my Groovemaster. I recently got a 525 thinline maple laminate, which I also prefer to the Groovemaster as it doesn't have the center strip or TOM and still handles like an archtop. Jazzpunk also moved on to a 525 from my Groovemaster as well. Still, the Groovemaster was a great guitar and would probably be good for somebody looking for a more versatile archtop without going the full semi-hollow route.
sheetsofsound Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 it's interesting cuz my 550 has the same type of block but I find that it does plunk...like a 175. My eagles have a totally different sound. There's nothing like the plunk of a laminated guitar.
