cwthompson Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I need help with the purchase of a new amp for my recently purchased H575 (witch I love BTW). I am a fairly new player so not going to be playing in public for a long time. But I still want an amp that has the warm clean tones for the blues music I'm learning to play. I was leaning towards the DB or BD, but now I'm thinking that a Blues Jr. would be a good choice for now. Any suggestions for a nice warm blues amp for home use would be appreciated. Thanks
Gitfiddler Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Any of the three amps you mentioned would do fine for your 575. It is a good idea however, to play through each and listen to their individual nuances. Welcome to the HOC and enjoy that archtop.
Hfan Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 If you decide on a Blues Jr or just want to read up on them, check out Bill M's Blues Jr site. Lots of good info and relatively easy to install mod kits. The mods make it into a different beast altogether. http://billmaudio.com/wp/
cwthompson Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Thanks very much for the info on Bill M's Blues Jr. site. It has a tremendous amount of information. Exactly what I was looking for. As a result I just ordered a Blues Jr. Thanks again. I'll let everyone know what I think after I've had it for a while. HOC is an awesome site....so helpful. DetroitBlues Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 All those amps are great, but everyone is right. Try them all out. I would suggest a lower wattage amp for home use as most can only play their amps at lower volumes out of courtesy to the neighbors. I like the Blues Jr. myself. In fact, I'd look for a used one to modify with the Bill M. kits.
Tim Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 I have an "un-modded" Blues Jr. and love it. The reverb on the amp sucks though, so I just use an outboard digital reverb/chorus (sounds better for jazz stuff anyway). Great choice!

Thanks I don't know if there is a such thing as a "blues amp" but you may want to check out the Fender Deluxe Reverb reissues. The amp is clean, very loud (22 watts), great reverb and trem. They are not cheap, but I think worth the cash. I love mine.
cwthompson Posted April 26, 2011 Author Posted April 26, 2011 Thanks everyone for the time you took to send your experience and advice. After a lot of internet research, reading reviews etc. and the help I received here, I have ordered a new Blues Jr. Brown Wheat Edition.

I'm a blues/rock player and I absolutely love the amp. Breaks up nicely and isn't over the top, shake the house to the ground loud.
cwthompson Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 Well, I received my new "Brown Wheat" Blues Jr. a few days ago along with a Cannabis Rex speaker I ordered from a different company. Played the amp for a while right out of the box, using my H575, and then switched speakers to the Cannabis Rex. After installation of the CR I got a LOT of feedback, even at fairly low volumes. I am using the amp at home in a fairly small room. So, I switched back to the stock speaker that came with the amp and feedback is gone. Anyone had any similiar experiences with this combination of amp, speaker and H575? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I definitely like the tone of the CR but the feedback was just way too much.
