Guest HRB853370 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I have been seriously thinking of ordering a 357 (Firebird) because one of my all time fave guitarists was Allan Collins. According to reports, he played and recorded with his Firebird until 1976, when he switched to an Explorer. Gibson launched a commemorative Explorer in honor of Allan in 2003. I really am more interested in the Firebird style guitar, but cannot seem to find the original specs on Allan's guitar. Any help would be appreciated!
golferwave Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 There's been discussion on the Lp forum about this. The consensus is that Allen had a Firebird 1 with a P90 in the bridge and a mini HB in the neck. He broke the guitar either in concert or when a car drove away with it leaning up against it and broke the neck. In any case after the 1 was destroyed he got a Firebird III and had it set up the same way as the 1 and plugged the other pot shaft holes. The main difference was that the 1 had no neck binding and the III did. Check on the forum and they have other references listed there to check out. Most of the info there seemed to come from Joe Barnes, Skynyrds guitar tech, and from Gene Odom.
