Trouble
Got one last week and have had a couple jam/practice sessions with it and love it so far anyone else using one? Also wondering what everyone's opinion on the best overdrive on the market is? Thought it would be fun to stir up a little ...uh... discussion! eljay
i'll play! i have an ocd, an mi audio "blues pro," and a "FET dream" made by "cause and effects pedals." all work well enough. when i really want crud, though, i clean-boost my vintage47 supro comet 10 replica (dimed, of course). a close 2nd is my li'ldawg mutt running with double inputs. at the risk of sounding like a cork sniffer, for me, overdriven tubes make better noise than pedals can deliver. $.

Also wondering what everyone's opinion on the best overdrive on the market is? Thought it would be fun to stir up a little ...uh... discussion! Its all realative.... For the best OD at the lowest price, Digitech Bad Monkey for $20 (Gibson listed it as the best OD for less than $50) But for the best OD pedal for single coil guitars, I'd suggest the Fulltone Plimsoul $160 For the best Fuzz/Octive OD pedal, try the Visual Sound Angry Fuzz $109 For thick rhythm tone, Wampler Ecstasy, $199 Those are my OD pedals of choice. If only I had the money for any of them.

tulk1
I have OCD. Er ... the OCD Pedal. It's on the board in case we have to do some harder material than my other ODs will cover. Plus, every now and then it's cool to use just to mix up the tonal palette a bit. As for fav OD's - The Suhr Shiba is my goto for leads. For everyday use just to boost the front end of the amp I use a CMATMODS Butah. Nice OD, cleans up well when picking light or backing off the vol pedal. Between the Suhr and the CMATS, I've got most of my OD territory covered. Then if I just need to get that much louder (argh!!!) I use my Wampler Ego Compressor. schundog
I love my OCD pedal, I think it's one of the best out there, as it cleans up nicely when you roll back the volume on your guitar. A cheaper "close 2nd," to me anyway, is my Boss Blues Driver. Just not quite as articulate as the OCD. My small pedal board has a Boss tuner, Bad Monkey, Digital Delay, and an OCD on it... for now. I have an MI Audio Crunch Box that does Marshall quite well, but it doesn't clean up at all, and for what I play, Southern Rock, Country, Blues, the OCD and Bad Monkey do just fine. YMMV
JeffB
The Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret was a fail for me. I choose it over the OCD because...I dont know why. So Im getting an OCD. My biggest concern is that it will sound like something I already have. The DLS doesnt.
Gitfiddler
Been meaning to test drive an OCD. My pedal board has either an Ibanez TS9 or Turbo Screamer. However, this bad boy just arrived yesterday and so far, it kicks some serious tonal booty... Take a listen to the samples on the Hermida website. Very Dumble-esque!! DetroitBlues
This is a litte outdated, but using this link is a comparison tool for a bunch of different OD pedals out there from a couple years ago.... OD PEDAL COMPARINATOR
jjkrause84
HUGE OCD fan, here....no better OD pedal that I've tried yet. Interestingly, I tried the Zendrive (a buddy has it) and I can't STAND the damn thing. Sounds awful, to my ears (although I can totally see why some people like it). RJLII
I have an Xotic Scott Henderson RC Booster, an OCD v4, and a Barber Direct Drive. I got the Barber from Brentrocks last winter. I use all three in fairly low gain mode, individually and in combination. The RC Booster adds a great edge to the sound, kind of like tubes just on the edge of breakup. The Barber adds great tube crunch that's very responsive to picking strength, and the OCD can do the whole 100 pound violin tone in spades. All three pedals have great range both tonally and with respect to gain. The OCD replaced an old Tube Screamer I used to have. I like the fact that the OCD is pretty transparent doesn't color the sound of the amp.
Trouble
I completely agree the best drive is tubes on the verge of melting , but being in a cover band its practical to press a button and and be ready to play a song , press another for the next song. My current drives are blues driver, ocd, and ydr2 rat . The ocd replaced a daddy o that crapped out on me and it is light years better.

tulk1
What's the ballpark price on the cmatmods pedals ? Depends on the pedal. $129 - $149 as an average. Some more, some less. CMATMODS
pegleg32
This thread got me to thinking about an OCD pedal so I cruised Ebay and it looks like there are half a dozen different OCD pedals. How do you know which one to be interested in? Or they all very similar? ( I think I saw version 1, 2, 3, 4, and a couple of others.}
JeffB
If anyone here was thinking of selling an OCD now would be a good time to put it in the HOC classifieds/for sale section where we could then exchange emails or pm's and discuss payment and shipping etc Just saying

No harm no foul, I agree with you completely. If I was doing all original music I probably wouldn't use any pedals, but they have there purpose. I am conditioned to compare every form of distortion ribs dimed super reverb because I have owned a blackface for 18 years!

Some minor differences in tone and gain structure as I understand it. I have a v4 and like it, but there are some out there who swear by the other versions. You often see folks heaping on effusive praise in "for sale" ads (super rare beta version 2.5, the holy grail, only one made, tone for days, be an instant rock star, a steal at $300) Yeah right. Exactly. I think you would be pleased with any of them. I don't know if the different versions is more a function of the original designer's anal retentiveness at constantly tweaking the "formula," or a marketing ploy to get middle aged wanna-be rock stars with some disposable income to buy more than 1 of the same thing.... Hey, wait, I resemble that remark...
