craig Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Can any body tell me the cheapest place to buy a new Heritage semi hollow H 535? Thankyou. Craig
big bob Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 have you asked Brentrocks or Martygrass, they are movers and shakers.
FredZepp Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Can any body tell me the cheapest place to buy a new Heritage semi hollow H 535? Thankyou. Craig There are many sources for used ones here... for a new one you'll be going through a Heritage dealer. Some would say a dealer that inspects and does a set up on the guitar may be worth a few more dollars also. Are there any Heritage dealers in your area, where you could go to see the guitars in person? ...
rooster Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Probably Guitar Center or eBay in the used guitars. Whenever I've seen used Heritage guitars at Guitar Dumpster, they are ridiculously overpriced compared to sellers here on the HOC. They sell beaten and battered examples for what near-mint condition guitars would go for on this forum. I know that when I finally get my semi-hollow or hollow body, I'll be looking here first. Whatever the price is, it's usually a fair price for a great instrument. rooster.
koula901 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 also try your local Craig's list. I actually found mine on CL but in another state - just lucked out.
jjkrause84 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 If you want to save money just buy used...most used guitars are like new anyways. The other way to look at it: if you ARE willing to spend 2k on a guitar, doesn't askign around for the 'cheapest' 2k sound a bit...strange?
FredZepp Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Of course, if you are really into the Heritage experience.. have one custom made to your specs... not the cheapest route, but not like other custom shops either. With a Heritage custom made you'll get more for less than the others. You have to spend some time thinking through the specs though...
heritagefan7 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 This is in Atlanta Craigslist listing...Almond Sunburst--Listed May 5th. Just to answer the question on this--but to follow form, guessing this really ought to move over to the buy/sell area of the HOC site. Hope this helps http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/msg/2364463629.html
mark555 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I would buy from any of the regular guys here who are selling, you won't get stiffed and you will get a guitar from a genuine enthusiast.
MartyGrass Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Here's some discounted new guitars. http://www.tradetang.com/wholesale+guitar_c22050701.html I don't recommend doing anything but looking and dreaming. Reviews I've read indicate they are a scam. But it's fun to browse. For a new 535/530/555, consider www.jimmywallaceguitars.com. If you know what you want, they're a good place to buy. They have a low overhead and offer very competitive prices. They can order anything custom from Heritage. I don't know if they'll give you the special care the Jay Wolfe does. So if you don't know exactly what you want, you may do better somewhere else.
kbp810 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 http://www.tradetang.com/wholesale+guitar_c22050701.html That's about all I have to say about that website
MartyGrass Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 That's about all I have to say about that website Well, you're no fun. Can't I dream that I can get a new Johnny A for less than $300? You're right, of course. Sites like this exist because of buyer's greed- and gullability.

Hope this helps http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/msg/2364463629.html I've seen this particular H-535 on TGP, so I would make the assumption that the seller would be willing to ship the guitar outside of the Atlanta area. It looks to be a pretty fair deal to me.
Jimbob Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Just thought I'd add the TGP link to the 535 in Atlanta. If I didn't already have a 535, I'd probably snag this one: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=890069&highlight=heritage
craig Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 MartyGrass thankyou. I know exactly what I want in a new custom H 535. How do I contact Jay Wolfe? Craig
craig Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 have you asked Brentrocks or Martygrass, they are movers and shakers.

MartyGrass Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 In broad strokes, here's my advice. If you are getting that guitar you're going to keep the rest of your life, get it from a big name dealer with a good reputation. You will pay more for that peace of mind and for ongoing advice and care, but that won't really matter in the long run. I have bought from a few smaller dealers that give very good prices due to their lower overheads and a streamlined approach to purchase. They don't have to do a setup or display the guitar. This way of purchasing can have some hiccups, so you have to be a little adventurous. But it will knock $200-500 off the price of a H535 compared to the more prominent dealers. I have paid much more for that peace of mind when I felt I needed it. I have never regretted it. For most of my new purchases I've worked with the smaller "discount" dealers. In general there's about a 100% markup on guitars and many other musical instruments. This varies some of course. The higher volume dealers get an even lower wholesale price, so the MSRP may be even 120% of wholesale. Most dealers have a lot in overhead, so 2/3 to 3/4 of MSRP allows them to make a fair profit and is very common. Internet dealers can even go lower though if they don't have a large showroom and have a small inventory. Again, you don't get any service with them. I'm a little timid about discussing business issues on the forum because it's easy to misinterpret the message. It boils down to this: you get what you pay for. I don't know of anyone who is getting rich retailing music instruments either. Most buyers should get their instruments from the big names when buying new. The HOC is an excellent way of buying used.
Telenic Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 also try your local Craig's list. I actually found mine on CL but in another state - just lucked out. This is what I would suggest but I'd go one step further and put an ad on Craig's List asking if anyone want to sell a 535. You might even find someone that wants to trade something you have for their 535. I would strongly suggest you meet at a neutral location.

That way the guy knows he's on video. Plus they usually want cash, so nothing like being at a bank.

I bought my beloved VSB 150 at GC and they were quite happy to negotiate as they don't seem to know what they are worth or anything about Heritage guitars. I find that to be an advantage. They may be overpriced but will negotiate. However, you will always be safe buying from the HOC.
MartyGrass Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 GC has been okay for me. I picked up a Prospect for $800 in good condition. They shipped me one dog, but took it back when I brought it to my local GC. I've had several other good transactions. Mark is right. It helps to negotiate.
