donnie Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 A little while back I posted pics of my beautiful new Prospect, which I bought completely on a whim because it's sheer beauty overwhelmed the shallow side of me. Might as well admit it. Anyway, a couple of you questioned why I would want another semi-hollow with Seth Lovers given that I had recently gotten an H535 with Seths and you were right. A little different but too much overlap. Had I not bonded with the 535 first maybe the Prospect would have been my semi-hollow keeper, but hindsight is 20/20 so the Prospect went back. It remains one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever owned. Anyway, I don't have space (or money) to collect as many as some of you guys so I was thinking about what to replace it with that I would really love but that was completely tonally different. Well, here's a little hint of a teaser, the one that got away-'92 LP Std. So the replacement isn't exactly the same but this will show kinda the direction I'm headed. With a little luck and the blessing of the Big Brown Truck I'll be posting the outcome mid-late next week. I'm sitting on pins and needles. I always worry about 'em getting to me in one piece.
FredZepp Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Good thinking on the overlap thing. You might as well have some variety in your choices. It's amazing how many you can get into even with that goal in mind. So this is a 150/157 of some sort coming in...? ( nice LP custom there also )
donnie Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 It's a 150. Beyond that I ain't telling until she lands in one piece next week! That LP was actually a standard-I'll tell the story later this weekend or early next week in this thread when I have a little more time. It's kinda interesting.

I should have seen that the LP is a standard... I guess the speed knobs and gold hardware threw me off... Nice color and top on it. Don't forget our NGD pics... we always enjoy those... !!
donnie Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 OK, here's a quick version of the story on that '92 LP. I'd been to see my brother down in Macon to watch him do some session work (he's the real picker in the family) and on the way back to Atlanta I stopped at a dingy looking little mom and pop place called Record Heaven in Griffin, GA. Turns out the guy is a Gibson and Fender dealer and has a decent inventory. So I see this beautiful LP hanging on the wall and ask the guy about it. It has a non-bookmatched 3 piece maple top, trans red finish with gold hardware. The story goes that he was a dealer who placed good orders with Gibson and paid his bills on time and he said every once in a while Gibson would reward such dealers with very limited run non-catalouged special pieces such as this. He had this trans red one and a trans honey one. He said he paid the same price as he would for any other standard and I could have it for the standard price-less than a grand as I recall. A few years later I got to trying to figure out what I had and after about a month Trygvvi at Gibson confirmed the story and said the actual model number was something along the lines of LPSTD-3pcCMTTR (I guess for 3 pc. curly maple top trans red. It was indeed never catalogued he said. Wish I'd never sold it but if I hadn't I probably would have never discovered Heritage, so all's well that works out in the end I guess.
FredZepp Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Great story... it's amazing what we used to get great Les Pauls for. That one was rather unique. We've become used to seeing great stuff come from Heritage. You'll be well pleased when your new Heritage shows up next week ....
