skydog52 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Just wondering if anyone knows why the H tailpiece is not being used. Sure seemed like a nice unique to its brand appointment. Let's bring it back!
Guest HRB853370 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Just wondering if anyone knows why the H tailpiece is not being used. Sure seemed like a nice unique to its brand appointment. Let's bring it back! There was another thread on this...apparently the supplier changed and there was quality issues. So they went to a trapeze instead.
Kuz Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Heritage has pretty much severed it relationship with Schaller. I heard this was due to poor service, and unpredictable quantities of inventory. Thus the reason to using Seymour Duncan pickups as stock. Schaller made the H tailpiece. That is what I was told from Heritage.
DetroitBlues Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 What a shame, but I rather like the look of a standard tailpiece versus the Schaller. But I do like the Schaller bridge because its a good bridge for a bigsby and it doesn't cut into your hand like the old Gibson style.

H Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I bought my first Heritage, a 516, BECAUSE of that tailpiece!
unikh550 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Just wondering if anyone knows why the H tailpiece is not being used. Sure seemed like a nice unique to its brand appointment. Let's bring it back! Not a big fan of the "H"; is hard to shine to get rid of smears, and is nearly impossible to clean from underneath, at least compared to a standard trapeze.Have it on my '98 H-550.
RhoadsScholar Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I thought the coolest tailpiece was the Liberty Bell tailpiece they had on the American Eagle. I guess they only made 25 of those guitars. I have the mighty "H" on a couple of Heritage guitars (a 575 and a Super Eagle) and I do like the looks. Never had a problem with them.
peteraltongreen Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Just picking this thread a little. As a foreigner ( English ) Firstly,I prefer Duncan Pickups.I don't really like the Schallers. And I prefer AMERICAN made accessories on American built guitars. It's part of the magic.I know we have a global economy, and parts are sourced worldwide, but I like to think that the music I love from America is played on American instruments.Simple as that. Peter Alton Green P.S. The photo shows me in 1978 holding my 1968 Kalamazoo built L5.A prime example of everything AMERICAN made and crafted. ( with the exception of some of the wood, maybe )

peteraltongreen Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Wow that is a beauty. Did you buy that new in 68? Yes,Special order.I'd bought an ES175,but the top bout of the body was miss shaped to my eye,and the neck had a twist in it.It was a new guitar,so,back it went, and I ordered the L5.It took more than the 90 days advertised for that model, but it was worth the wait. So,on the same day that the L5 arrived,my new Fender Bandmaster amp & 2 x 15" Dual Showman cab arrived too.The sales man ( Rick Kemp from U.K. folk band,Steeleye Span, who I'd know for some time ) told me to sit down while he told me how much the bill was.The two, together came to £1000,about $2500 at that time.I had a good job,did lots of gigs, lived at home with parents,no problem.I still gasp when I open the case. It's a mega guitar. They'll bury it with me. Peter Alton Green P.S. at that time for £1000,you could buy a very nice,up market saloon car.The cars are gone, but the guitar's still here.
Mr535 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I always thought the H tailpeice looked nice. Unfortunate they had to discontinue it.

H Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 What is a Saloon car? A car with a hood (bonnet) and a trunk (boot). Do you call that a sedan?
Spectrum13 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 A car with a hood (bonnet) and a trunk (boot). Do you call that a sedan? That would be a sedan with 4 doors and a coupe with 2 doors. A Saloon car is a limo with a full bar in the back.
peteraltongreen Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 What is a Saloon car? Hey,Sorry guys I sometimes forget I'm talking to Americans, who use English, but not in the same way as the English. Please don't be offended at that remark,as I know from experience. i.e USA Potato Chips,UK Crisps USA Erasers,UK Rubbers ( Yes,I know ! ) USA Cigarettes,UK Fags. ( Yes ,I know ) So,look at the car, sorry Automobile photo, that to us is a Saloon Car,A Sedan to you,I think.Look also at the price. The first price,if quoted in Dollars is about what you paid in the U.S.,then.At that time there were about $2.50c to the pound. The p.c figure after the price stands for Purchase Tax,your Sales tax.We pay huge amounts of our income to very unworthy causes.Currently,we pay 20% sales tax on everything but fuel & drink, then they go through the roof.Don't ever fall for the political garbage that tells you by raising taxes, things will get better. They don't. I know,as I live in a country on the brink of ruin, thanks to the stupid people we put in charge. Learn from us.Sorry about the rant. What's this do do with guitars ? Peter Alton Green
NoNameBand Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I can appreciate the falling out with Schaller regarding the "H" tailpiece, but I would think they could find someone to replicate it. Gotoh or someone. I agree it adds a nice touch. But again, I'm sure Schaller is not the only manufacturer that can do it. It is very distinguishing from the trapeze which, though it is nice, a bit common.
Spectrum13 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I still have my price lists from Gibson from September 1967 and a L5 is around $850 list w/o case and you could get 30-40% off list. So like $650. Only the Johnny Smith and Super 400 were over $1000. In 1971 a Ford Mavrick was $1999 list. UK prices must have been much higher than in the States, I know you had heavy import fees after WWII to help build your industry. What did an E Type Jag go for back then? That Nash was not exactly a hot car in the USA.

The British have always paid more than anyone for everything. We don't protest here. This attitude is coming to an end as our taxes now take most of our income, probably as high as 70% for low earners * Including Income Tax,Council Tax,Road Tax, Fuel Duty,T.V.Tax etc.The list is endless & growing. The E.type Jaguar was £1995 in 1960,which was about $5000 then, you would get it much cheaper,as we paid 25% tax included in that.I used the Nash simply because it came to hand. Our Auto's are not even Automatic gears, and we don't have aircon, except as an expensive extra. We are in deed,a 'Hardy Nation' * Peter Alton Green * Laurel & Hardy,a laughing stock,or joke.

peteraltongreen Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 The Brits sure know cars and craft the most luxurious interiors. Trouble is,we don't have any skilled salesmen. That's why our great cars are all owned by other nations. Our industry was decimated by stupid union & worker action. The thing we've become famous for.It really is a tragedy. All those great hand built autos of the 30's,40's & 50's,like Frazer Nash,Armstrong Siddelly,Alvis,Rover,Humber,Princes,Jensen etc.We still see them on our roads,so they were built to last. Most people here would rather pay the earth for one of those far eastern Tonka toyotas etc.I hired a Toyota last time I was in California.I wanted an American built car,but they only had the Toyota left. What a difference. Why do you buy them ? Are they cheap ? They'll be a lot cheaper to you than us.I drive Vauxhall's in the U.K. G.M. Owned,I've had loads of them, never let me down. Now,let's talk guitars ! Peter Alton Green
