Gitfiddler Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 First of all, buying used Heritage guitars can easily become an obsession. The deals are out there if one looks long enough... (Or if you peak over Brent's shoulder as he surfs the net!) My latest bout of used Heritage GAS lead me to a gorgeous H157 acquired from our own Marty Grass. (Thanks for remembering my 'dibs call', MG!) After taking delivery, I did my usual oggling, cleaning, polishing, adjusting pickup height, etc. In the process of fiddling with it, I pulled off the back cover plate to confirm that it had Seth Lovers. WRONG! The label reads..."Seymour Duncan 59's" H-157 Natural "ULTRA". ULTRA?? Whoa. I've never heard of a 157 Ultra. I guess they were making reference to the super curly Maple cap. Yep, you can always get suprised by the boys on Parsons Street. Just check your label. Oh, and the SD 59's sound great in this gitfiddle!!
tulk1 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Git, that is, indeed ULTRA! Ultra cool!!! Nice grab. Surprised Mark didn't know what was actually in the guitar. Still a sweet surprise.
FredZepp Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 OH Yeah... That is a great looking 157 with a most excellent flamed top... Ultra is right.
Guest HRB853370 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Mmmmmmmmmmm. Now put that enhanced photo on the gallery! Looks like a keeper to me.
kbp810 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 If you look up the definition of "Ultra" in the dictionary... you will see a picture of that very same marvelous guitar

Steiner Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Guitfiddler, if I ever make it back to the Golden Gate State, your collection is going to be tops in my "must see" list. I'd tell you that guitar is stellar but if you look up redundant, you'll find another shot of that very same guitar with "beautiful" next to it.
MartyGrass Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Gitfiddler, Ya got to do a little more snooping. The plate is only half right. It is an Ultra, although I think they may have mispelled that if I recall. But the pups are Seths. The 59s were replaced and a bone nut put in. It looks too good to play!

Whatever they are, they sound fantastic.
DetroitBlues Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Sa-Weet guitar! I love the glossy natural goodness!
MartyGrass Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Then Seths it is then!! Whatever they are, they sound fantastic. Didn't they spell Ultra u-t-r-a?
Gitfiddler Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Didn't they spell Ultra u-t-r-a? I think it was mispelled. I'll check when I get home tonite. Heritage labels are always interesting to read...or decipher!

Marty, I've toyed with the idea of trying different p ups in my 157 one day (came w Schallers) How did the 59's compare with the Seths in a 157? gitfiddler, that 157 is gorgeous, I love it. Congrats and good luck with it. 157's are cool.
yoslate Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Marvelous, Tim! Congrats! Another one for the traditional carpet shot. That's a very "you" plank. Your collection is just stunning! Thanks for the vicarious thrill! I'm sure Mrs. Gitfiddler is thrilled....
