MartyGrass Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 More pics to follow when it arrives. Fretboard binding gives you an idea of hold old this is. The nut tells you something about whether this is NOS versus used in great condition.
Gitfiddler Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I've got no clue what you are thinking. But that does look like the headstock of an early Golden Eagle or Super Eagle. If you showed us the rear headstock, we could see if it has a Registration Number on it, confirming it's early age. The nut looks original to my aging eyeballs, matching the white binding. Typically a replaced nut (if bone) is slightly darker. So what are you thinking, MG?
DetroitBlues Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Since there is no discoloration anywhere on the binding, the nut is bleached white, and the tuners are not tarnished, I'd say you have yourself a new or like new condition Super Eagle that must of been a custom order and had a replacement nut.... As to what you're thinking, I'd say, "Whoo Hoo!"
MartyGrass Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 7 layer binding on the fretboard ended in the 90's I believe. The nut is not fully cut. And there are round wounds on it. While that doesn't completely prove anything, it is consistent with NOS. Ren cut the nuts commonly back then and I guess now as well. He usually let the strings ride quite high on the nut, something resolved with the final setup using the customer's choice of strings. Heritage used GHS rounds 11-49/50, which look like those in the pic. Just a little bit of trivia to punctuate a morning. Here's the back of the headstock.
skydog52 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Don't know what it is but I like everything so far. One of Patrick's guitars?
koula901 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Don't know what it is but I like everything so far. One of Patrick's guitars? I wonder if he ended up selling all his Heritage guitfiddles..
RhoadsScholar Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Beautiful Super Eagle there. I am a recent convert. Hope she arrives safe and sound.
MartyGrass Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Beautiful Super Eagle there. I am a recent convert. Hope she arrives safe and sound. You pushed me over the edge, my friend. Heritage makes the bigger box archtop comfortable by reducing its depth to 3".

schundog Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I think split-block inlays on ebony fretboards look totally bad-ass. I can't wait to see the rest of the guitar! congratulations!
Jazzpunk Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I think split-block inlays on ebony fretboards look totally bad-ass. I can't wait to see the rest of the guitar! congratulations! There is no rest of the guitar. It's a custom, one of a kind, neck and headstock only 'Heritage Eagle's Beak' model!
MartyGrass Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 There is no rest of the guitar. It's a custom, one of a kind, neck and headstock only 'Heritage Eagle's Beak' model! That is a heinous lie! The neck narrows into a smart looking shoe horn! Here's the rest of the Heritage.
Jazzpunk Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 That is a heinous lie! The neck narrows into a smart looking shoe horn! Here's the rest of the Heritage. Ah, you got the deluxe Eagle's Beak with the ebony tail. Nice!
FredZepp Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Ha.. Love the headstock. And the shoehorn cracks me up. Deluxe Eagle's Beak with the ebony tail.. indeed. That Parsons St. plant has made everything from childrens toys to clock cases to waterbeds... so why not the finest quality shoe horn.
DetroitBlues Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Stop it! You are giving me shoe horn GAS!!! I'm glad use shoe laces, haven't needed a shoe horn since I was a kid and had to wear a pair of shoes my grandfather would wear when he was a kid.
