zookroo1 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Holy crap! That's exactly what I hope my 535 looks like one day (when I can afford it)... Enjoy the new guitar!
H Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Beautiful! And one of the few occasions I can honestly say that the pickguard accentuates the look. You must be very pleased with that. Why the pause until September, Mark?
bebove64 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Is it coming from NY area? oh yes this is is one of the most beautiful, finest, amazing h535 I've ever seen! Be proud of it!!!!!!!! Congrats MG

Why the pause until September, Mark? 1. Budget! 2. Out of space. 3. September is when I get my Thornton Improv. You can read about this in Chuck Thornton's blog. http://www.cpthorntonguitars.com/multimedia/
GASguy Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Gorgeous finish, flame and binding on that one MartyGrass. The finish and binding colors really complement each other, for a true vintage look. Congratulations and enjoy!

MartyGrass Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 Which one is the Improv? The Improv is discussed in his blog section. The first batch of them is in progress. He just dressed my fingerboard. Chuck Thornton is one of the best luthiers alive. He only does electrics.
donnie Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 There's really no substitute for the passing of time to bring out the best in a fine instrument, is there?
tbonesullivan Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 What color is that exactly? OSB? it looks darker than Almond Sunburst. Anyway that is one great looking 535. Enjoy it!
MartyGrass Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 ASB. It is very dark, but the label says ASB. The other odd thing is that it has gold bridge studs. The story behind that is that Charlie did hardware setups at Heritage. Charlie said that he sometimes would prank Bill Paige by putting some of the wrong hardware on to see if Bill caught it during inspection. Charlie thinks this slipped through. Heritage is willing to swap out the studs, but this makes a nice story.
Gitfiddler Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm!! That is one Chunky Neck beauty!! (Dibs after Schundog)
tbonesullivan Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 are the gold? Or brass? Either way that is a great story. I have the same bridge on my H-535, as well as on the H-158 I got from you, and I haven't noticed any loss of sustain from using it. I also have the big weird schaller tailpiece on my 535.

Gold plated. Part of my balanced portfolio.
NoNameBand Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 The entire guitar is gorgeous but I especially, love the binding color. It looks antique. Nice catch MG. I hope it plays as nice as it looks.
FredZepp Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 That was a great grab... That one has a sweet look... just intoxicating really. I like it a lot... a whole lot.
