craig Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 What is the upgrade HRW/pigtail (combo bridge & TP)? It's for an H-535. Should I get it instead of Two duncan 59's if I am using the 535 for funk and jazz playing? Thankyou. Craig
tulk1 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 "Upgrades" are subjective. Swapping out, that's something different. Whats wrong with the set up you have? Should do funk just fine with the HRWs, especially if you can split/tap them.

I'm having it made with two duncan 59's but was wondering if the HRW/Pigtail(combo bridge& TP) would be better for funk playing. I don't know what it is or does.
Hfan Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Not sure but I suppose HRWs would be the p ups and isn't a pigtail combo a tailpiece which doubles as a bridge? Like on a 137? If yes, don't think I'd like that kind of bridge / tail myself on a 535.
Spectrum13 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Craig, I /We have only seen one H535 with the combo bridge/tailpiece and never got the owners review. Slate has the only 150 wraptail know on this forum Most 137s come with a wraptail and some have upgraded to a pigtail which has individual saddles to adjust. How did your dealer describe it? Could be a new Heritage Ren Wall /Pigtail T6 type stop bar like on a Lucy.
DetroitBlues Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 HRW's are custom made pickups by Heritage. The pigtail is a type of brige/tailpiece company that produces a period correct 50's era wraparound tailpiece. That is more common to Les Paul Jrs and H-137's... http://www.pigtailmusic.com/Products.php
Halowords Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Hey Craig, I'm not an authority, so feel free to take with with a relative grain of salt. I had a Hamer with a wraparound bridge (can't remember if it was a Pigtail or something else, probably a one-piece but I do not remember) and loved it. I really do not find the standard tailpiece on my Heritage H-150 or Prospect lacking though. If you like the wraparound and are having one built, thus considering a Pigtail, why not? I just got a Pigtail Intoneable Wraparound bridge for a project guitar I'm having made and really like it (well, relative to what I can do with it, which is not much since it is not attached to anything, but it seems pretty solid and looks nice). The Schroeder Wraparound Bridge has also gotten a ton of rave reviews and is worth consideration: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Electric_guitar,_non-trem_bridges/Schroeder_Stoptail_Bridge.html Considering what is "better" for Funk, or anything else for that matter . . . I do not think one is better than the other. Wraparound bridges definitely have their rabid fanbases. I really liked mine, but did not notice any significant tone differences that the design of the guitar would not account for. I think it is more a matter of taste as far as comfort a/o aesthetics, and possibly tone (some say yes, some say no, there are virtual tons of writings on that). I would see no reason not to go with a Pigtail or Schroeder Wraparound if you like that style. I also do not think either the Wraparound or the two-piece TOM bridge is inherently better or worse for any style. It is personal preference. I liked mine, and if you like them I think they would be fine on an H-535.

If you go to Heritage's website, click on custom shop, click on heritage premium HRW pickup, scroll down and you'll see H535 HRW pigtail combo bridge& TP. Is it the T6 Stop bar like on a Lucy? What is a Lucy and are there any pictures of this HRW pigtail combo bridge & TP that I can look at? Thankyou.

OK, That would be THE H 535 with a pigtail combo /wraptail bridge. We only saw one of these. You might try a search for it or wait till Fred wakes up from his birthday blast/ hangover and post it. I was considering having one on my custom Prospect. I think they are pretty cool but I don't know about resale. "Lucy" is the Gibson ES355 BB King plays. Heritages Ren Wall designed the tailpiece on it which you can see on the Gibson site or you could Google it.

tulk1 Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 the tp6 is a fine tuning tailpiece that is found on B.B Kings guitar. And it just so happens that Ren Wall is the designer and creator of the TP6.
