dwilliams Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Hi Guys, I had a wiring problem with my 535 and took it to my local repair guy who fixed that but when he went to touch up a couple of places on the finish his touch up pin "unloaded" on the finish. bottom line is that he tried to clean it up with acetone and i now have an area the size of a dime that the color and finish is no longer there (bear wood). the guitar has the sunburst finish I just took it to a "good" repair guy in another town and he said that he could do a pretty good repair on the finish and color but it would never be perfect. Quoted price was around $300. He said the only way to really get it back to new would be to strip all the hardware off the top of the guitar, sand the top down to the wood, repspray the sunburst color and then many coats of lacquer. He is not set up to do that. Does the factory do that kind of repair? any suggestions?? thanks!
big bob Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 yes the factory does, and 300 for not so great refinish is wrong.
dwilliams Posted June 11, 2011 Author Posted June 11, 2011 any idea how much the factory might charge?
DetroitBlues Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Ouch, a drop and fill should work if you can find a luthier that knows what he's doing. I'm having my top done for less than $300, but it's taken me 17 weeks and I still don't have it back.
drfie Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 When you said the first guy tried to clean it up with acetone, I realized I knew exactly who it was:
