RhoadsScholar Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 A couple months ago, I work out a deal with Mark trading my 575 for his 18 inch thinline Eagle (which I proceeded to name the MidiEagle) as it has a roland GK-2 Pickup setup. I had been playing a Super Eagle for while along with my 140 and 170. These 18 inch guitars are huge, but so am I, at 6' 8"" it looks like I am playing a mandolin with my h140. I aquired a Big Ass Blonde and now I have a Big Ass Burst to go with it. It is a stunning LemonBurst finish signed by all the heritage employees at the time it was built. No F holes and a partial block with a stop tail tailpiece to minimize feedback. It is also the thickness of a H335 style guitar. It plays as good as it looks. I am still trying to get the Midi Pickup adjusted. I have an older Roland GR-1 Which I like a lot. I am not sure if this would track better with the GR-20. I plan on bringing it up to the PSP IV in August. If anyone has mastered the Roland GR20 synth, I would love to try it out with a newer style Roland Synthesizer. I used to have a GK2A on my G&L legacy and did not have tracking issues. I am hoping it is just a set up issue. I love the look, neck, feel, weight, almost everything about it. I need to spend some more time with the Synth and possible try out a new GR. I also like the guitar modeling module Roland uses which uses the GK2 pickup. I have heard there are no tracking issues with that. I used to have the Fender VG stratocaster so I will also be trying the VG floor board products as it opens up a lot of possibilities. I was hoping to do a video demo some time soon and take it through its paces, but I have some more tweeking to do. I'll be posting some pictures shortly. If you are coming to the PSP4, I'll bring the Midi Eagle and the GR1 . I would love to try it out with a more modern module and work with someone who knows the GR Stuff. I promise to play the Organ and Synth Parts so others can play lead and rhythm. I would also like to hear someone play who has mastered the Roland Synth.
RhoadsScholar Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 MidiEagleIn case you forgot what she looks like, here you go. Hope to put a video clip soon
DetroitBlues Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 MidiEagleIn case you forgot what she looks like, here you go. Hope to put a video clip soon wow, that looks really different. Huge body guitar makes the pickup and bridge look tiny...
schundog Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Hey, glad you are coming to PSP; Now, at 6'3", 270, I won't feel like the only Sasquatch....
High Flying Bird Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Hey, glad you are coming to PSP; Now, at 6'3", 270, I won't feel like the only Sasquatch.... As long as you don't smell like one it will be OK. Leave the rotten egg smells to me.
JackBaruth Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I have a GR-20 on my pedalboard so if you remind me prior to PSP I will bring it along with one of my Godin LGXes so you can compare tracking.
FredZepp Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Thanks for the review of that unique Heritage. I've always found that one interesting. My Roland is a GR-1 also. I would think that some tweaking would resolve any tracking issues.... Good luck and I'll see you at PSP !!
RhoadsScholar Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Thanks Jack, I'll take you up on the offer to bring the GR20... It would be cool to compare it to a Godin as well if you don't mind. FredZepp, i'll keep trying to tweek the GR-1 and hopefully, I will find a setting I might be overlooking. Looking forward to the PSP this year bringing a Big Ass Blonde, a Big Ass Burst, my H140 mandolin, and maybe a few others (depending on what fits in the trunk)...
RhoadsScholar Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 I recently got a GR20 and ths guitar Tracks amazong. THere must be something wrong with my GR1. I have a new love for this instrument and am looking forward to bringing it up for the Friday and Jam sessions. So will be able to add Organ, Piano, Sax, and better still, on a genuine HERITAGE Guitar.... All you MidiGuitarists going to PSP IV this year, seek me out as I would love to hear this thing in the hands of a master. I'm still learning the ropes. The guitar is so big, the single humbucker is dwarfed in comparison..... Another fine find from MartyGrass (Thanks Mark)
byrdland Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Each of the six strings on the guitar have to be exactly 1mm from the pickup for that string, and of course, over the pickup area for that string. I have a GR30. It allows you to adjust the pickup sensitivity for each string. It makes a big difference.
RhoadsScholar Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 Thanks Byrdland, put the final tweaks on the GR20 this side calibrating each string. Big difference. Thanks for the tip. I think I hung onto my GR-1 too long. No comparison between the tracking of these two guitar synthesizers. 2 days and counting to PSP...
