Jimbob Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I'm sorry if this has been asked a thousand times, but would any of you happen to know what year Heritage changed the H170 where the neck joint is much closer to the body itself as shown in the photo below? Of course, the older model is on the left while the newer one is on the right. Thanks!
GuitArtMan Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Do you have pics from the front? It looks like the control cavity has moved as well. Did they shift the bridge/tail piece and pickups positions as well?
DetroitBlues Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Wow, that's really interesting. I'd love to see the front as well...
Jimbob Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Ok....the older guitar is on eBay at the moment, and I couldn't get a good front shot of the same newer guitar above. However, the Heritage website does show basically the same guitar. The two models are really quite different. Even the cutaways have changed significantly. I'm actually thinking of purchasing an H170, but I would definitely prefer to have the neck joint where it's located on the newer models. I'm just wondering what year this model did the makeover.
H Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Just to add to the mystery, my U serial H-170 has the long neck join but is of the newer shape And it may be for sale VERY soon.
Jimbob Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Well, it seems that this new batch of 170s is called the "2nd" or "New" generation H170, and it appears as though a couple of folks have them here. My guess is that Heritage may have done the new design within the last couple of years or so. I'm looking at the possibility of a new one, but I guess we'll see.
Growlyman Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 My 1986 H-170CM/ASB looks identical to the one whose pictures you found on eBay. I like the old body shape better. I would love to find out how many (or more appropriately, how FEW) H-170CM/ASB guitars were produced in 86. I rarely ever saw another.
