MartyGrass Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Wanted something articulate but not too hot. How about the BBQ? What should I expect?
big bob Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 My rio's are quite nice. I have a genuine texsas humbucker, a fat bastard, a crunch box, a tallboy, and a muy grande.. They are generally hot.. clean up well but meant for crunch...

MartyGrass Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 What are you thinking of putting it in. What sound are you after. Something a little hotter than the SD59s but less than Super Distortions.
big bob Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Something a little hotter than the SD59s but less than Super Distortions. I would not classify any of my rio's as articulate. you may be better off looking at some seth lovers, or HRW's
Jimbob Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 If you're looking to stay within the PAF realm of things, Wolfetone Marshallheads are pretty cool. They're about 9K for the bridge and about 8.2K for the neck. They hit the front of the amp a little harder, but nothing like Super Distortions. Plus, they clean up pretty well when the volumes are rolled back, too. http://www.wolfetone.com/marshallhead.html

I actually miss the pups, but don't miss the guitar at all, lol Now that this thread has rekindled those happy thoughts, I think I might be seeking out a set for my 150
shook494 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I had a BBQ in my old 150 for a while. It was a little too much bass for me. The Texas in the neck was nice though.
mtpatty Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I believe if you want more oomph than the '59's and less than SD's, Bare Knuckle VHII's might be what you are looking for- I find them to be very articulate...with plenty of oomph, but not crazy distorted...
squawken Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I have BBQ-Texas combo in my 150 goldtop. Me personally,, find them less muddy than 59's, slightly hotter.
MartyGrass Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 I've got BBQs en route anyway. I wanted to get your thoughts on them. I'll report back on how they sound. Thanks.
mtpatty Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 cool- let me know what you think...I just ordered a SD SH 14 (Custom 5) supposed to be a hotter 59...will let you guys know...

Trouble Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Not to hi-jack the thread but has anyone tried the Duncan alnico 2 pros, I haven't but always thought they would help to tame a harsher guitar like a strat or SG? Anybody? Also, I am a fan of the Pearly Gates Plus pickup, although Im not sure I would call it articulate.
