A Gibson PAF pup in my Roy Clark?

I bought a Roy Clark Model six years ago at a shop in Vienna. It's 8 years old (T serial letter). They don't sell used guitars, so I'm sure it was new. They had lot of Heritages that time. Because of that I'm 100% sure the pups are stock.

I thought they are SD Seth Lovers but lately I checked them and the neck is a SH-1N Seymour. Now the strange part. The bridge pickup has nothing on the back except a decal: Patent Applied For. It is mounted with just one screw in both sides.

Is it an old Gibson?! Any indications of what it can be?

There are a few reproduction PAF style pickups by different makers that have the sticker... to look more authentic and all.

( and you can buy the sticker aftermarket also... )

Hopefully there is more info written somewhere on the pickup.

(Usually if Heritage is installing something out of the ordinary in a guitar, they will note it on the label. )

Unfortunately there is no any other information neither on the pickup neither on the label. It seems like an old Gibson with a black decal on the back.

... usually they made the Roy Clark with HRW's or with Seth Lovers. It's definitely not ordinary. I'm confused.

It's hard to say what it is... but hopefully it sounds great.

By the way.... that is a REALLY nice Roy Clark model.

I made a picture from the pup. I know it's not the best photo... I'm just a musician :-) Anyway maybe someone can recognize it. The red fleck is a some kind of paint. Thanks in advance!

yes it is! and since they are the former Gibson factory I can imagine that they have some pups left over. I mean why would they buy fake PAF's? :-)

PAG, you might have a Gibson T-Top or Tim Shaw in your Roy Clark. The factory was still producing them in the mid-80's when Gibson left for Nashville. Maybe they had some left over. You might call Ren and see if he recalls. T-Tops and Shaws are nice pickups, but some claim that they are not very consistent due to the winding processes used back in the day. The proof is how YOURS sounds however. If it sounds great, then you got a good one! The best way to confirm what you have is to remove the p'up cover and have it checked out by an expert.

By the way, that is one very sweet looking Clark!!!

Welcome to the HOC.

Thanks for the replies! Yes very much possible that it's a T-Top or a Shaw. I asked Ren, he says that they not installing Gibson pups as a standard... Anyway it sounds great, at least to me:-)

Welcome to our first friend from Hungary ?? If the pick up sounds good to you, what else matters? Congratulations on owning such a nice guitar.

I don't believe there were any PAF's lying around. My guess would be it's a Gibson 57 Classic. It just looks way too new to be a 50 year old pickup.

I agree, Gibson Classic '57s have the PAF sticker on them from the Gibson factory

I would be the first here from Hungary?! I have some friends here who owns Heritage guitars I'll recommend the HOC to them! Thanks for the warm welcome.

About the pickup, yes it's also possible that it is a Classic '57 although I don't know why would they buy pups from Gibson USA... :icon_scratch:
