brentrocks Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 AHHHH YESSS....the H-50 arrived ahead of schedule! I was like a 15 yr old boy sitting there with a naked girl on the bed...not quite sure what to do with it.... I pull it out of its cute lil case and see right away that the strings are shot. So i put on a new set of strings, set the bridge, tune it up...(there is a lot of pressure on those little strings!) Plop down in the 'ol laz z boy and start pluckin. LOUD! OMG. that little box is almost as loud as my HFT 445!!! It really rings out!!! Its harder to play than i thought...but its only been an hour or so, but my fingers hurt bad!!! The mando itself, has some checking. Besides that, it is in fabulous condition. Here is a clip i did a few minutes ago... http://www.reverbnat...ow/song_9975102
Halowords Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I was like a 15 yr old boy sitting there with a naked girl on the bed... Hopefully not just like . . . Nice mandolin though.
FredZepp Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I love the sound of a good mandolin... and this one is very good. It is a delicious instrument , as anticipated. And with a full and rich tone. The warm finish and finest grade woods complete the package... enjoy it in good health , Brent.
Hfan Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Beautiful Brent. Love how the back grain seems to match the neck grain. Oh and...DIBBS!
tulk1 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Yeah, baby!! Remember, Aaron Cowles made that, so if it needs a fixin', might contact him. And maybe this will help get you started on chording. They're quite easy to learn, actually. Altho' I do agree the mando takes a bit more finger pressure than our guitars. Thats another thing Aaron might be able to help with. Anyway, check out this 2-finger chord chart.

bobmeyrick Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Tune that sumbich like the first 4 guitar strings and your in business. Back in the 1980s I went to a guitar clinic given by the great Tommy Tedesco, and when he was asked how he was able to play so many instruments, that was pretty much the answer he gave!
Jim W Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 lots of tab here, found it when Alicia got hers: http://www.mandolincafe.com/
MartyGrass Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I was like a 15 yr old boy sitting there with a naked girl on the bed...not quite sure what to do with it.... Plop down in the 'ol laz z boy and start pluckin. You got it right, Brent. Mandolins are for plucking. Naked girls are for... cute pictures.
tulk1 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Tune that sumbich like the first 4 guitar strings and your in business. Probably shouldn't, Bird. The strings aren't tensioned for that. And it would probably put too much pressure on the top. Last thing you want is to have to post the top to keep it from sagging.
