bolero Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 going to pull the pearly gates out of my 535, the bridge just isn't doing it for me have a set of lollar imperials that sounded KILLER in a H150....but before I go thru the joyful ordeal of swapping pups in a hollowbody...has anyone tried a set in theirs?
MartyGrass Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 The Lollars will work very, very well. My experience was with the low winds though.
Kuz Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Well, everyone has their own take on tone. I briefly had Seths, then Lollars in my 555 (mahogany neck/rosewood fretboard so it more like a 535). Semi-hollows don't have the mids and are voice somewhat brighter & woodier than solidbodies. The Seths, Lollars, & Peter Florence pickups just didn't round out the tone for me (but they all sound very good in soldbodies). So I slapped a set of Throbaks in my 555..... they are never coming out. So moral of the story.... everybody has a tone in their head they want and for me I wanted a bigger rounder tone that the Lollars couldn't give (but the throbaks did). YVMV
Gitfiddler Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 This week I heard a set of Fralin paf's in a Gibby 335 that sounded so amazing! The same set had previously been in a solid body LP R8. Same amazing tones!! You might want to check out a set for your 535.
bolero Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 argh...I HAD throbacks in there....but I pulled them for a special project so I put in a seth neck in with a PG bridge...but I guess I was spoiled with the throbaks!! I'll try the lollars out, they sound very good in that H150 can' afford to buy another set of throbaks right now I should try some fralins though....a friend has a 1962 Gibby 355 with fralins and it is THE BOMB. that's actually why I picked up this 535 actually, he lent it to me for a while & then like a crack addict I was hooked
