Heritage Photo Shoot in the Warehouse District

My 12 year old has a very creative eye, and has taken an introductory digital photography course, so this afternoon I packed up 3 Heritages and 2 Givsums to take downtown to an old warehouse area, popular with local photographers. It was a beautiful day, and I know the gray slate skies of winter aren't far off, so I thought we'd get some good shots, with her as my "wingman." Ha. Other way around. She snagged the camera from me almost immediately, and started barking orders about how she wanted stuff arranged. She's not any better than I am at not getting guitar glare, but she does have a good eye for a shot. I'm proud of her. We have a nice Canon EOS Rebel, but wifey was using it this afternoon, so these were taken with my lowly Kodak EasyShare I've used at the last 2 PSPs. None of these are award winning, but we had a ball together this afternoon. BTW, the Givsums never made it out of the trunk.....

Great shots!

The ones with the old brick as backgound are particularly striking (numbers 17 through 20).

Well done.

The pics are very nice but better yet is quality time with your daughter. I find that life's responsibilities and the daily grind stuff can tend to get in the way of the important things.

Great pics!

You took a big risk putting a Heritage on the railroad track, you never know when Snidely Whiplash might be lurking in the shadows!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Ray, a funny story, we were headed home and went over a bridge over tracks, and just when we were at the top, a train going by underneath laid on the horn! She nearly jumped out of her seat, as I had kidded her about a train coming while we were doing those shots!

Yeah, the pics are fine, but, as some of you mentioned, the time with my girl was priceless. Our younger daughter is easier going, but the 12 year old sure has my heart, too. Here's the old man teaching the girls how to cut a rug a couple weeks ago: Ladies and Gentlemen, the White Man Overbite!

Nice work! If I took any expensive guitars downtown (atlanta) to remove out of their cases I would need a 357 (and not a Heritage) clipped to my belt along with a police escort.

when I bought my H155 in Detroit a few years back, I stopped on the way home in Jackson, where at one time the NYC/MC RR had a huge presence in the way of shops where they built/serviced steam locomotives. today it is a storage/warehouse, though the industrial site has been cleaned up. I thought, nothing like the old brick buildings to make a fine backdrop for a few photos in the evening light.. so, I set up and shot a few. the last shot was out at a still standing tree away back from the buildings, so I posed one there too.

agreed that old industrial sites make great photo backdrops.

btw, love what was done in photoshop to enhance those photos!

and Brian, rule 1 in the Railroad book of Rules (which, like the military, is what all RR employees live by) is: expect a train from either direction at any time. they say the rules are written in blood.

anyway, enjoying this post hope you don't mind the pile on..

Nice, Ray, thanks for sharing! Pile on any time. I'll have to get my 155 downtown for "round 2." BTW, I'll bet those RR rules are LITERALLY written in blood!

The girl used Picnik for editing; she and her mother bought an upgraded subscription to it for 1 year for like $25. Worth it, IMHO.
