Thinking about a new 157.

Can I order a new guitar from the factory or must I use a dealer? My 555 needs a sister. I would like the color and neck to match the 555. Any advice on how to accomplish this?

Heritage policy is that you must go through a dealer...you can order it in person if you live nearby, i did that and then picked it up in person when it was done.

Then do I contact a dealer, then go to the factory? Possibly take my 555 with me? I live in Dearborn Hgts.,but would make the drive in a heartbeat.

Sort of a contradiction there Brent? Hey, Kzoo is only 840 miles from me and I consider that nearby!!!

That sounds like a good path to take, and I would also give the factory a call ahead of time to let them know you want to head out there.

You definitely want to take your 555 along, especially if you really like the neck size and shape as they can measure it and try to get the new one close.... if your trying to match the color, you might want to bring them some high-res photos of it as well that they can reference when it makes it to the spray booth.

Now the only question is which pick-ups to get.I play more blues and R&B than rock.I know it's been covered but I can't find all the posts to help with the choices.Long tenon seems the right way to go.Also, are light weight and weight relieved the same thing? Thanks to all for the help.

For Blues and RnB I prefer Seth Lovers and Fralin PAF's. The good news is that Seths are a no cost option right from the factory.

Others can chime in with their respective pickup favorites.

I like Wolfetone Legend pups, Lollar Imperials, and of course Throbak's

Peter Green phase reversed too...I find the normal mid position to be too generic sounding & not very different than the bridge on it's own

*edit* Seths & Fralins are great too!

Aaron Cowles of Aaron's Music Service in Kalamazoo can serve as your local dealer and he knows the Heritage folks very well.

I've bought a couple of Heritages from Rich Butler of "The String Collector", also in the Kalamazoo area. He and Ren play in a band together.

Call 4 or more dealers and ask for a quote. Tell them that they are competing for the job. Don't tell them who else you called or they might collude to screw you. If one guy calls back in an hour and another guy calls back two days later you can gauge their want for the job.

Make an appointment and drive down to Heritage so they will know what you really want. Then place the dealer calls on your way out of Kzoo.

I have fallen in love with the SD Phat Cats. I have an order in for a set for my 535. They will replace the HRWs that are currently in the guitar.

Bird, you will have people waiting in line for those HRW's!! They seem to be quite in demand at this time. Are they too hot for your tastes? I have them in my 555.

Collusion? Those words are music to my ears. That indicates potential FRAUD!

Can you tell me or can anybody tell me what the sonic differences are between SD59's and SDPhatCats?

Thanks!

To my ears, it's incoherence v articulation :)

As mentioned, your first step is to call Heritage (Monday-Thursday in the morning) and tell them what you want to accomplish and they will lead you through the details.

The above is good advice. Just for example, say Heritage will build a custom something model for $2400. You don't know this, because all you will get from your dealer is the final price. One dealer might quote you a $2500 final price that includes his $100 take, while another dealer might quote you $3000 that includes his $600 slice, and so on. Last year, I ordered a custom H-110 through Aaron's Music Service in Vicksburg, a short drive south of Kalamazoo, and ended up with a beautiful guitar with a smooth transaction. This past March I offered my specs for a custom Prospect through the same dealer, but it "died on the vine", it seems, due to pricing issues between the factory and the dealer. With all the enabling going on around here, I'm thinking it might be time to try it again from a different angle! :icon_pirat:
