eljay Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 how long is a piece of string? never thought about it until a few minutes ago when i noticed from HOCers' pics that some 357s have p90s and some have HBs. probably can't desribe the 357s as having "a" sound since it will depend on the pickups. what is it about the 357s that makes you (youse) owners so passionate about them? do i want one, too? :-) thanks for replies! eljay
yoslate Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 There's video from PSPIII, of Friday, before or after the tour, I don't remember, in which I get to spank Brent's 357, the one he bought from Marv. That might give you some idea. That was not my style of guitar, but it was, no question, a magnificent playing and sounding instrument! Magnificent!
Steiner Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 The ones I've played have a "different" feel to them. Unlike any guitar I've held. To me they evoke John Entwistle playing 6 strings. That long neck and body design have a character all their own. Come to think of it ElJay, your wall is barren of the 357. That's still a mighty-fine Man Cave though!
schundog Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 "YES," you want one. You know it. Now order it, dammit....
High Flying Bird Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I don't know how to answer this one. Mine has Phat Cats and an ebony board so it should give a different tone than other configurations. I wanted to be able to change out the pups if I wanted to later and these pups gave me that option. How do they feel to hold and play? Damn nice. With the strap button in place like a 535 you can just turn the guitar away from you and start a bend. They do feel long and it took me a while to get used to it but now I can switch to the 535 and not feel any difference. These guitars have a cool factor in my eyes. If Marv had not made mine for me I would never have owned one. I don't want anything but a Heritage logo on the headstock of my Firebird. That''s about as much "cork sniffing" as I do. Look deeply into the finish..... 269-385-5721
brentrocks Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I agree with Ron that it does feel a little long, (thats what she said) but its not a drastic change when you strap on a H 150 afterwards. The big difference with mine, and was the dealmaker, the weight! My H 357 weighs less than all my other Heritages. The neck is HUGE, but Marv V'ed it and that makes that big neck much more comfortable. I have Tom Short Markbuckers in mine. They are a pretty hot pickup, but work well with the korena....a huge tonal difference from the 59ers. http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_9245284 Larry...if you are going to order one, talk to marv and see if he will do a korena 357 for ya....i sure do like mine and Paul will probably chime in on his too...you wont be dissapointed!!!!
JackBaruth Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 My two 357s are completely different. The mahogany one with SD 59s in it is a big full-throated growler that sounds a lot like a Gibson R9. The korina one with ThroBaks is much less bright and sounds like the tone and volume have been rolled back a bit at all times. I could A/B them if somebody wanted to hear the difference.

fxdx99 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Repeat (been posted before), but it's kinda cool. Shoot, it's almost 'who cares what they sound like'... they are SUCH a beautiful instrument. http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2010/12/21/frankie-ballards-record-deal-leads-to-a-very-special-guitar/
Gitfiddler Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Good question about 357's. I have never touched, played or heard one...but there aren't many guitars that come close to their cool vibe!
eljay Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 I'm leaning more toward a purchase . . . oye! Thanks, schundog!!
barrymclark Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 They sound like hell. You don't want one. Send it to me. haha. You are somewhat right in that a guitar's sound will change with pickup change; however, the pickup can only work with what it is handed in its magnetic window. What happens in that window is acted upon by the body of the guitar which is translated to the strings. Two different type guitars will act on strings differently. So... pickups matter, yes, but so does the rest of the guitar.
brentrocks Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I'm leaning more toward a purchase . . . oye! it would be a great addition to your collection

Let's remember that this has a neck-through the body - that's one of the things that makes this special. I should think that adds to the sustain. Plus, Bird is right - it just looks cool.
SouthpawGuy Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Just a heads up guys, there's a 357 on Ebay UK at the moment, only a few hours to go in the auction. http://www.heritageo...-alert-ebay-uk/ A rare 'bird indeed !
FredZepp Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Here is Marv putting together HFB's 357.... it's just cool to see how he puts these together....
