555 set-up question

I just bought a Heritage 555 (1999) and I was wondering if someone could explain the dual screw pick-up height adjustment screws. Also when I set-up the action to my liking the strings are just barely above the treble pick-up. I'm sure the pick-up height will be different from what I'm used to, but is having the pick-up height so close to the strings normal.I am new to semihollow body guitars, I'm a hard rock guy but I wanted a blues guitar. If anyone could shed some light on my subject I would be thankful.

Thanks Jim

I've adjusted these on my solid body 157. These are most likely Schaller pick ups and if the rings have the extra side screws they are also Schaller. As you said they are height adjusters. On my solid body they enable you to also make a slight tilt adjustment as well. Not sure about a hollow body though. So you can't get the pick up low enough for your liking? Maybe post a picture.

Its working ok for me i was just wondering if that was normal. Now I under stand the two screws, like you said it must be for slight tilting one way or the other. I using it for blues so i'm using the neck pick-up for the most part. Thanks for your response!

Nice guitar, I have one just like it, but I replaced the schaller pick ups and hard ware. By the way, a big welcome to the cult of Heritage, once you get into how good these guitars are and hang around with us for a while, you will want another.....

The guitar seems to be of very well made I'm impressed. Ive been tweeking it but still i am having trouble with the string buzz. I can usually set up my own guitars but for some reason I'm having trouble with this one. I guess I might have to go to my local repair guy and see if he can help me. Are the strings close to the treble pickup on all 555's? If I cant work it out I'll just sell it, but I hope that dose not happen it is so nice.

You should be able to drop the pickup to the level of the ring, maybe slightly lower.

I'm guessing that most of us keep the bridge pup cover between 1/8" - 1/4" from the strings. You don't need much clearance at all really.

The ability to slant the pup by adjusting the pairs of screws has not been useful yet to me. Probably German over-engineering.
