Thundersteel Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Why is it that just about every guitar I see with P90s have necks with dot inlays? Any ideas? Discuss!
Dick Seacup Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I'd wager it's because the original Specials and Juniors had dot inlays. Was the P90 a less expensive pup than the PAF buckers back then? Seems if it was, it would make sense to have only dots instead of more expensive/elaborate markers on the neck. A "P90s and dots in the entry level, buckers and blocks in the upscale model" kind of thing. But, I have no idea...I'm just taking a guess. Wingnut...a PRS with P90s? Post it!
Thundersteel Posted September 23, 2007 Author Posted September 23, 2007 Mine has birds. Sacrilege! ;D
dblazer Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I've always wondered why so many of the Heritages are built with dots when the trapazoids/crowns/blocks look so damn sexy. I imagine it's an economic consideration. My new H-137 has a bound ebony fingerboard with traps, I think it's a very classic look. The story about the dots being cheaper/easier is most llikely the explaination. The upgrade was significant, but it's sure reasonable and worth it IMO. h137-1.JPG h137-1.JPG_thumb
wingnut1 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Here is my Custom 22 tripple soapbar. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g170/wingnut318/Guitars/CustomTripleSoapbarwallpaper.jpg[/img]
dblazer Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 That's a really short guitar. Just kidding, pretty one, for sure.
Dick Seacup Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Short guitar? Nah, it's a prototype PRS mandolin! ;D

GuitArtMan Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Was the P90 a less expensive pup than the PAF buckers back then? The P90 simply pre-dated the humbucker. They may have been slightly less expensive to build, but it was a hype thing - these don't hum - so the humbuckers went on the more expensive guitars.
dblazer Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 http://www.coda-music.com/catalog/images/gibo56vosgoldtop.jpg[/img] Sweet. Reminds me of the P-90 loaded Les Paul that Mike Bloomfield played.
GuitArtMan Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I think that guy John Lenningrad played one of these? What was that band? The Cockroaches? The Ants? The Spiders? The Ladybugs? ;D
Thundersteel Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 Hopefully, this one will be mine real soon... Photo3_d8d4a-Original.jpg Photo3_d8d4a-Original.jpg_thumb
dblazer Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Hopefully, this one will be mine real soon... Very sweet. Is that one of Jay's special orders? I had an H-150 that was a sweet guitar, an early Gold Top, but "Two Ton Tony" weighed in at 13.5 lbs and had to go. I think my upper limit is about 8 lbs.
Thundersteel Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 "Two Ton Tony" weighed in at 13.5 lbs Wow! That must have been like wearing a boat anchor around your neck! The last 150 I played was just a hair over 9 pounds. Very sweet. Is that one of Jay's special orders? I don't know if it's a special order or not; but I've been looking at it for awhile!
dblazer Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Wow! That must have been like wearing a boat anchor around your neck! The last 150 I played was just a hair over 9 pounds. I don't know if it's a special order or not; but I've been looking at it for awhile! It was difficult to stand up with it for a long time, for sure. Too bad, it sounded great. Jay usually "upgrades" most of what he orders over the standard hardware, etc. That's what I meant. Get it, you never know what's going to happen with the prices, or the factory. Good luck.
