TonyM Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 After attending PSP IV I had a terrible case of GAS. I was coveting 445s, 535s, 555s, Eagles (all of 'em), 550's, you name it. Traded a few e-mails with BrentRocks about his 445. Couldn't get him to give it up. I caught a glimpse of a black Golden Eagle in the random photos that pop up with each login. Looked like a bookend to my Millennium. Tracked it to MartyGrass and had several discussions about the guitar. (It is still shown in his gallery: http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/gallery/image/2814-07-golden-eagle-black/ ) He was thinking of posting it so I had an early buyer opportunity. I messed around with my Gretsch for several weeks (same scale length) and found I like the cutaway. The black Golden Eagle is a custom without a cutaway. So I decided to purchase a 550 that soundpure.com had listed. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/380366015327?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 ) Got them to give me a better price and was ready to pull the trigger. Sent a late night note to Mark saying thanks and keep me in mind for future purchases. (The future comes quickly!) Sent a late night e-mail to SoundPure saying I'd arrange purchase in the morning. Mark's reply to my note was waiting in my inbox after I hit send to SoundPure. He included a nice summary of the different guitar features and his thoughts on the resulting sound. (I think it's worth a post, Mark!) He had a Super Eagle that had upgrades for wood and had the tune-o-matic bridge and he offered me the same early buyers option. Sent a note back to Mark. Sent a note to SoudPure. The Super Eagle is now resident in MN. This guitar is outstanding. I'm now a member of the MartyGrass "Good transactions with..." club! And a way happy buyer! I've attached a photo. Link to Photobucket here in case the attachment doesn't work: http://s1032.photobucket.com/albums/a404/tmisslin54/Super%20Eagle/?action=view¤t=SuperEagle-005.jpg Also; I plugged the Super Eagle into fxdx99's Tweed on Saturday. He played a couple tunes and I caught his lead to "Love Me Like a Man" on my I-Phone. You can see/hear it here: Tony M.
JimWhite Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I'm glad you provided the video, Tony, so that everyone can know that the Super Eagle sounds as good as it looks. But next time we're going to have to capture and post a video called "TonyM Lead on the Super Eagle". Oh yeah, and thanks for the hat!
High Flying Bird Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Nice guitar Tony. It sounds good too. Congrats!

heritagefan7 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 beautiful guitar---awesome sound and wonderful video...great way to start of the week. Thanks!!!!...and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
fxdx99 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Okay. I get it now. Kept thinking 'man, those big 'ol archtops look cool, but they're BIG'. Maybe too big. But now I get it. They sound huge. And not just in the note, but it's that sound between the notes that gets you. Phew... always love the natural boxes and that one has 'the' sound. And plays effortlessly. What a great guitar you have there, Tony.
tulk1 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I've always kind of thought the same as Randy had - those big jazz boxes are BIG!! And I'm a much larger man than Randy (sorry, it's true - weight wise!!! <lol>). But they sure do have a sound all their own. Congrats on the good transaction with Mr. Mark. Sometimes, hunting them down and doing the deal can be as much fun as getting them and playing them
FredZepp Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Ah.. the joy of the big box Heritage. ... Beautiful guitar... I'm sure that you'll enjoy it.
Hfan Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 That guitar is beautiful. Looks like a keeper for sure. Congrats Tony and enjoy. You guys in MN are lucky, you have your own little HOC sub chapter going, very cool.

TonyM Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 You guys in MN are lucky, you have your own little HOC sub chapter going, very cool. Long story about how I found the Corner Coffee "Saturday Morning Music Fun Club". Started with a random walk into a local bistro sponsoring "Moses Oakland" for Thursday night jams. (http://www.moseso.com/ ) I'd played with guys from work but otherwise hadn't gone to a jam in about 30 years. Went to the next jam and was the only one in the place so they were quite welcoming. Went back a week later to a packed house that included fxdx99 and another young dude with a 535 that he had just put SD antiquities on. Listened to them discuss the different sounds they were putting out - totally in awe. Found out we had a mutual friend that had invited me to hear his group, "A Beam Reach". that had since joined the SMMFC. It had been on my work calendar for nearly two years! Went downtown that Saturday and have been back as often as possible. Great group of musicians; great bunch of people. Tony M
TonyM Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 Welcome to the club, Tony. Thanks, Rob - would sure like to hear you working on yours! I think I can almost imagine it! TonyM
zguitar71 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Nice Guitar, it used to be mine. I bought it new from Wolfe Guitars in 2000. I did the tune-o-matic so I could get the intonation perfect. I'm glad to see you playing it. I used it in big bands, combos, trios, fusion and blues gigs. I loved the guitar but I finally figured out I was too small for it and my body would ache from a long gig with it. I had to have the guitar when I bought it and loved it dearly and was a little heart broken when it left. But the reason I let it go was due to the lack of playing time it received so it thrills me to see it out being played live as it should be. Thanks for keeping the Big Ass Blond Super Eagle alive!
