RockinB23 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Well I just pulled the trigger on a very clean 1997 Heritage Eagle Classic in natural on ebay. I've been really into all things Gretsch and high end acoustic guitars for quite some time but I've always wanted a good high end fully carved Jazz guitar. This is my first one and my first Heritage. I'm excited to be getting it, I will report back with pics and a little review once I receive it. I'm curious what strings do you guys recommend? I bought some Benedetto .012's for it for starters. Its the two humbucker model.
kbp810 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Welcome to the HOC and congrats on the nice grab; can't wait to see some pics! For strings, there are a ton of great options available... but I've grown quite fond of the Thomastik Infeld Superalloys
Genericmusic Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 First off, Welcome! Thomastik is a very good brand. For jazz guitar I like flat wounds. I would say our resident string expert would be MartyGras. Here are some links to earlier discussions: http://www.heritageo...__fromsearch__1 http://www.heritageo...__fromsearch__1 I thought we had a round wound discussion too but I can't find it.
barrymclark Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I went through a Gretsch phase. Heritage ended that phase. Gretsch has had some killer guitars but heritage has the right sound for me.
rockabilly69 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Well I like Gretsch and Heritage guitars so welcome to the Heritage Forum, this is a godo bunch of guys here passionate about these guitars. I being new to the group myself can tell you I LOVE my H150.
barrymclark Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 RockinB23 and Rockabilly69, You guys get here by way of a Gretsch forum? If so, which? RockinB23, The Eagle Classic is HIGH on my list.
brentrocks Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Welcome to the HOC! Please post some pics...we like pics!!!!
RockinB23 Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 I saw the link on the Heritage Guitars Website. I am on the Gretsch Pages and Gretsch Talk Forums. I've owned over 20 different Gretsch Guitars over the years. I'm an addict and a big Brian Setzer fan. I used to own a US Built Carved Top White Falcon, a guitar that I dearly regret selling!!!! chico Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hey welcome to the HOC! And, if you ever want to converse with a Gretsch expert I can turn you on to a guy in nearby Whitewater, WI., (im in Madison, 30 miles away), he's the real deal w/regard to Gretsch knowledge. Tryin to think of his name offhand, I will look it up later when I get home. went out to his house one time, think his name was manny but my memory is kinda, well, faded LOL!. had a canceled check from Billy Corrigan laying on his table, works out of his house on US 12. you will love your Heritage.
Hfan Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Welcome to the club, hope you love the Eagle. I like that Brian Setzer rockabilly stuff (the tone and the licks). Would love to learn some more of that genre.

rockabilly69 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 "RockinB23 and Rockabilly69, You guys get here by way of a Gretsch forum? If so, which?" No, I would lurk here once in awhile to get the down and dirty on heritage guitars, but when brentrocks sold me my H-150 I joined officially. I am also a member of TGP, Gretsch Pages, and The Les Paul Forum and I am not officially locked into one guitar or sound. In actuality I am more of a resonator and acoustic guitar player by profession but I do LOVE big fat electric guitar sounds, and my H150 serves those up in spades:)

I post on Gretsch Pages under the same name as here. Rarely, but there.
Kuz Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 For jazz..... Thomastic George Benson Flatwounds 12s They are the only strings I will use for my Heritage archtops.
mark555 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Hi and welcome, I would love to be able to play rockabilly guitar........
RockinB23 Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 Well waiting for this Eagle Classic is getting tough. The FedEx tracking originally said it was coming today but now it says tomorrow. I guess maybe because of columbus day.
RockinB23 Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 Well I received the Eagle yesterday and popped a new set of the Benedetto Nickel Jazz Strings (.012s) on it I bought. It sounded and looks great. I was disappointed once I played up past the 13th fret. The guitar is in need of some serious fret work. They aren't at all level up there. Pretty much get two different notes on each strings past the 13th fret. I wrote the seller and told him I'd be willing to have it repaired and keep the guitar if he covers it or I'll return it. I was quite surprised at how bad it is.
RockinB23 Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 I sent it back to the seller and I'm getting a refund. I don't feel like hassling the repair. Its a drag because I had to come out of pocket for shipping back.
