Guest HRB853370 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Most of you read about the NHGDTIT post. Some of you were even amused at the title of the thread, although no pun was intended. Well, I just installed some Schaller straplocks on it and decided to remove the control cavity cover plate out of curiousity (everybody should do this, right?). I knew it had bound headstock. I suspected it had SD59's. The finish, which I thought was ASB is actually ALSB. But the biggest surprise was, the model was listed as an H-150CM LW. LW? Does this mean light weight? Do I own a gutted out guitar similar to what the Big Boyz in Nashville are doing with their LP Standards now? Or is merely a weight relieved model, with cheesecake holes drilled inside the body? I noticed the first time I took her out of the case, that she was very light. I even commented on the fact that I have a "light one" now. Not that I am disappointed. This baby sustains like a cat who had its balls cut off. So, that said, with the bound headstock and the LW designation, this guitar was a bit more expensive, ya think?
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Maybe the mahogany has woodworm Or those pesky bees that drill into wood.
High Flying Bird Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Or those pesky bees that drill into wood. Luthier bees.
skydog52 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Definitely nice upgrades. You have a nice one there. Dibs!

MartyGrass Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Heritage does the LWs really well. This one will make your VWB feel heavy. The H150 LW has the good looks of the LP style with the heft of a Strat. I have found the sound very pleasing, like a blend of a good LP and a good 335. Errr... H150 and 535 I mean. You should be happy. I'll bet you don't pick up the VWB that much anymore. I haven't seen a single negative comment on the H150/H170 LWs. Not one.

And it has the SL pups in it, which make it extra special! But yes, it is a beast!

SouthpawGuy Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Do you know how they make them lighter? I'm told you should be able to see through the control cavity that it's an LW model, looking towards the pickups that is.
SouthpawGuy Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Oh and as far as I'm aware the LW models are similar in construction to the Millies.
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Oh and as far as I'm aware the LW models are similar in construction to the Millies. I was not aware that Mildreds were weight relieved.
tulk1 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Millies and LWs (we think, according to BBob) look like this.

Thundersteel Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I used to own one . The body is chambered, similar to a Guild Bluesbird. Heritage doesn't use swiss cheese holes! Mine had a very woody tone to it.
SouthpawGuy Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I was not aware that Mildreds were weight relieved. They're not. They're chambered.
fxdx99 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Bit of a frame of reference on a 110... assume (don't now for sure) that they are similar as both have the 'LW' designator. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/topic/13557-under-the-hood-of-an-h-110/page__p__166780__hl__+light%20+weight__fromsearch__1?do=findComment&comment=166780
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I am calling Heritage tomorrow to ask about what they actually do to make a LW 150.
tulk1 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I am calling Heritage tomorrow to ask about what they actually do to make a LW 150. They won't tell you. Betcha.
DetroitBlues Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Definitely nice upgrades. You have a nice one there. Dibs! I feel sorry for poor baby stuck holding that up for the photos...
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 They won't tell you. Betcha. Can't see why not. Not like its a secret formula or anything such as HRW pups.
Steiner Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 My 150 LW is hollow from the control cavity through to the switch.
High Flying Bird Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Damn fine job on the lighting old boy!
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Thanks Greg, that really shines light through the subject here. Funny how a guitar with less wood costs more......
