JohnCovach Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 College audition time for young Jonathan, played on the trusty 575:
heritagefan7 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 wow--that's really great...diggin the groove! Great guitar work--looks like the support cast is right there in the pocket and really apprecitaing the moment.
bolero Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I need to stop saying "wow" in all my posts but WOW that was great!! thx for posting
JeffB Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Wow seems like an appropriate response. That is great. Really enjoyable. The whole band.
tulk1 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Great jazz tone on that 575!! What the heck is that amp on the chair?
schundog Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I assume "Young Jonathan" is your son, John? If so, you must be very proud. He did great. I LOVE Monk!
111518 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Four thoughts: Very fine playing ... really has that traditional jazz guitar tone and feel down, without sounding like at all like a kid parroting a style --he's made it his own. You must be both proud and a good teacher. (Or maybe you know when to get out of the way...) Young drummers, and taste ... I guess it's always a work in progress. I think your son has a more mature sense of time, although obviously the drummer is well-versed and has chops and potential. Although I learned humility a long time ago when it comes to guitar playing, I'm still glad I only rarely encounter student players of your son's ability. If they were all that good, I'd be out a job.
Hfan Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Very cool, you should be very proud. Love that tune. Nice tone as well. What amp?

Jonathan has not studied jazz with me, so I can't take much credit in that department. He has been studying with Bob Sneider, the jazz guitar instructor at Eastman, for many years now. He's also been studying classical at Eastman, but his first love is rock music.
bebove64 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Congrats!!!!!!!!! He's young and....on the right way!!!!!
eloyjazz Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 gOOD player!!!! WOW!!! Love that 575 tone....
yoslate Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Jonathon has my admiration! He's begun early. He's literate and already has a terrific vocabulary. He has a deft touch, and he seems to feel what he's doing. Best wishes for him, wherever he wants to take this. (Nice to hear the drummer get behind and under Jonathon on the Van Heusen tune.) Thanks for posting that, John!
