jarrodsturgis Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Here it is! My 2009 Heritage bass that was custom made for me. I was invited to share it on this page from some of the members here. Any ???? I will be glad to answer.
NoNameBand Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Sweet looking bass. It looks a lot better than Ren's. Welcome to the forum. I hope you like the bass.
tulk1 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Jarrod, didn't know they'd still make a bass guitar. Didn't ask, tho'. Nice bass! Just a bit jealous. Mark, it probably looks better than Ren's because it's not 30yrs old and used every day. <hehe>
jarrodsturgis Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 I am a good friend of Marv's. I actually introduced him to Frankie Ballard when I was playing for him. This bass was made as a one off for me as a gift. I truly do love it. I currently have it strung up with flatwounds to give it a simulated dog house sound. They had a few parts laying around and made some magic with them. The really cool part was, we were able to do some major shows with all Heritage guitars on the stage.
NoNameBand Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Jarrod, didn't know they'd still make a bass guitar. Didn't ask, tho'. Nice bass! Just a bit jealous. Mark, it probably looks better than Ren's because it's not 30yrs old and used every day. <hehe> Ren said he finished his with "Old English" furniture polish just before a wedding gig and the oil came off on his Tuxedo. I believe everything Ren says so it must be true. It sure looks like it.
NoNameBand Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Jerrod's bass on the other hand, is beautiful. I would love to hear it. Maybe we can talk him in to coming to PSP V for a little "show, play & tell". Are we making plans?
jarrodsturgis Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 I live in Kalamazoo!!!! I am always willing to jam. Matter of fact, I will be playing it tonight.
totonka Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Jarrod - Glad to see you make it over here. It was a pleasure talking to you the other day with Marv at the factory. Wish we could have chatted longer.
jarrodsturgis Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Totoka. Thanks for suggesting me to this page. It is fun. Sorry that it took so long to get here.
Krohawk2 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 How much input did you have? Are they still taking custom orders for basses?
jarrodsturgis Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 How much input did you have? Are they still taking custom orders for basses? I wish that I had some more "input". But, they did this as a favor to me. My old #1 was a 1971 jazz bass (that I still love). I brought that in and asked Marv if he could reproduce the feel of the neck for me. He was 100% succesful in doing so. That man can work wonders with a neck blank. Then we picked the sunburst out for the body that they had in stock. It came out better than I had ever dreamed. After that, we fitted it with the pickups and hardware of my choice. Believe me! This was a chance of a lifetime for me, made possible by the wonderful owners of Heritage. Marv told never to tell anyone where I got this guitar. Because they don't really have the facility to produce basses. But, I truly do have an amazing instrument that I will cherish for the rest of my life.( And my sons life, my grandson"s life and so on).
High Flying Bird Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Nothing wrong with that one! Congrats. You may be surprised by what they will build if you ask them.
tulk1 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 How much input did you have? Are they still taking custom orders for basses? That's kinda what I was getting at. We've asked them about bringing back several out of production instruments and generally get a big NO WAY. In fact, I feared for my safety when I asked if they'd build me a banjo!! ...........
FredZepp Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Great story... and yes, Marv's skills are legendary. That's a great bass...
schundog Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 What a cool way to make a memory!! You certainly have a one of a kind Bass! I, too, would like ti see it and you at PSPV. Welcome to the HOC!
Gitfiddler Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Another incredible Heritage story!! Welcome to the HOC. Maybe you can convince Marv to make you a matching guitar to go along with that amazing looking bass!
Genericmusic Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I truly do have an amazing instrument that I will cherish for the rest of my life.( And my sons life, my grandson"s life and so on).
TalismanRich Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Believe me! This was a chance of a lifetime for me, made possible by the wonderful owners of Heritage. Marv told never to tell anyone where I got this guitar. Because they don't really have the facility to produce basses. .................... I'm glad you told us that... we'll keep it a secret. Really, mum's the word. Only you and thousand or so other folks will know!!!!! Shhhhhhh! Glad you could join us, JS.
DetroitBlues Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Welcome to the HOC. You're sure to stir up a storm introducing that. No one thought Heritage has made basses in at least 15 years. Then again, the 357 isn't in the catalog either, but Marv works his magic to make that happen too! Beautiful bass!
bolero Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 that's a beauty! P bass configuration? which pups did you go with I'd love to see more pics whenever you have time also you gotta come out to PSPV next year...."turn up the bass" shouldn't be part of the lyrics to Whole Lotta Love...hehe
Blunote Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Marv told never to tell anyone where I got this guitar. Because they don't really have the facility to produce basses. What bass? I don't see no stinkin' bass....

Blunote Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 may i offer a correction? that should be "no steenking bass . . ." So noted.
golferwave Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Nothing wrong with that one! Congrats. You may be surprised by what they will build if you ask them. A true "Custom Shop" in every way.
