Ran across an Academy

Well, didn't actually run across it with my car or anything like that. However ... the banjo was doing some weird stuff; buzzing, dead notes, etc. Time for a good set up. There's a local guy that builds his own guitars, does very good repairs. He worked over my singer's Larrivee and it now plays like a dream. My Larrivee is going there when I pick up the banjo. Anyway, we're talking banjos and mandolins and I mention I have a Heritage mando. He knows the guys up the 'zoo, having had his own booth at NAMM right next to them. He asked if I had any Heritage guitars ------ <lol>. Oh yeah. Then he points at a case against the wall and says there's one in there. Oh boy!! Opened it up and there's this gorgeous Academy Custom in ALSB. Absolutely beautiful. Had a piezo bridge, Schaller tailpiece, gold hardware. And it played very very well! Heritage's aren't that common in the area, and to find one at Wendler's was a real surprise. No pics. But if it's still there when I pick up the banjo I'll get some.

When your repair guy happens to own a Heritage guitar, all is right in the universe. Always a good sign.

It'll be tempting to take the mandolin on your next visit to let him admire it also....

... a Heritage banjo would complete the set.

Wow, another hidden Heritage is discovered.

The Academy (basic version) and Academy Custom (deluxe version) models were single cutaway semi-hollow models, similar to the double cutaway Prospect.

A Heritage Banjo - if only!! I keep looking, but they're more rare than the Mandolins. The H40 will end up there, soon. The bridge is collapsing; needs a new one. He even does his own acoustic-electric bridges. May have him do that. And it needs a set up, anyway.
