je00143 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Anybody using Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in a 575? I am torn between them and the 59s. I have been listening to the SD clips through my pro headphones instead of the computer speakers, so at least the sound quality is appropriate. Thank you!
GASguy Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I can't directly answer your question but two things come to mind when I read it. I remember reading, I think on the SD site, that pearly gates pups are especially recommended for 'bright" sounding guitars. The other thing I wanted to mention is that I have SD 59s in a H535 and SD Seth Lovers in a H 535 and after playing them both for a while I defiantly prefer the Seth Lovers to the 59s. Just my two cents.
bolero Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 hmm that's a tough call, how are PG's for cleans?
tbonesullivan Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 what guitar are you going to be putting them in? The Pearly Gates have more mids and a bit more top end than the '59s. The seth lover is somewhere in between, but due to construction the seth lover is kind of in a class of it's own sound wise. You really can't go wrong with any of those choices though. i've got 3 guitars with '59 neck pickups, and one with a '59 bridge pickup, and they are great pickups.
DetroitBlues Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I had a Pearly Gates in a Strat. It's a pure rock/over drive pickup. I never played anything clean with it because its output was so powerful.
Guest HRB853370 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I have Seth Lovers in a 535 and 59's in my 575. I find the 59's to be very natural sounding, if that means anything. The Seth Lovers are a bit grittier. With feedback already a problem with a 575 I would not want unwaxed in my 575. I know nothing of Pearly Gates (other than I will be there one day).
NoNameBand Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I have a set of Pearly gates in a 150 as well as a pair of '59s. I like them both but I prefer the Pearly gates and don't want two of the same thing. The Pearly gates seems a little More touch sensitive and more bite when you want it, but not when you don't. '59s are a little more mellow to me compared to the pearly gates though both are great clean & dirty.
