eljay Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 prospect and gib cs-336, to get some perspective on the "ears" thing: two of my heart's delights! thank you for looking, eljay
tulk1 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Cool pic! So, what's the sonic difference between them?
DetroitBlues Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Nice pair of cousins. Wonder if the trap tailpiece makes a difference in playability?
eljay Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 thank you, gentlemen. sonically, the prospect has hollow-body "brittleness" (in a good way). this is what i hoped for. apparently, the trap tailpiece makes no difference (to my weak playing, anyway) since i never gave it a thought, before.
Gitfiddler Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Great comparison shot! Those are two completely different gits that share only their relatively similar, small body size. The Prospect's 'ears' seem more prominent sitting next to the 'little Mickey' ears of the 336. Both are excellent instruments. The CS336 body is made from a solid piece of Mahogany that is carved out to form its back and sides. Then the solid 2 pc. Maple cap is glued on. The tone is closer to a LP/150 from my experience than any semi-hollow. Your Prospect is Maple lam top/back with solid Maple sides. Did you go with a center block or full hollow?

I only thought about it because it makes the actual string length longer. For some reason, I assume longer string lengths make the guitar a little harder to bend the strings.
Spectrum13 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Tim, Larry's Prospect has no center block. It is a 15" Casino with humbuckers.

tbonesullivan Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I wonder how they would compare to a hamer newport. the CS 336 I think has body construction similar to the newport, with a "hollowed out" mahogany body, like Carvin semi-hollow guitars have.
heritagefan7 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 great pics! I've also heard tht the 336 has an LP"ish" sound.
