wjp Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Aquired this recentley for a very reasonable deal - swopped Fender Strat for it. It plays very well, is very well made and has a kinda vintage tone. I was told it is a 150 entry level model or Special with poplar body and mahogany neck. It has a rosewood fretboard and dot inlays. Pups are schaeller as is the bridge and tail stop. Serial number is i26006. Any one offer any further information about this/these guitars? I definitely will get another one. Thanks Peter
Millennium Maestro Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 The most important place to start is with the builders tag in the control cavity... It should tell the actual model. Dot inlays could mean Poplar wood, or special build without traps. If you photograph the back you may be able to view mahogany which means it is NOT a 150P and therefore more valuable. 4 screws pickups are Shallers, which a a german version of PAF vintage style pickups. PS. there have been a few goldtops recently on the forum and they have featured mahogany bodies and dots!
DetroitBlues Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Take a pic of the inside cover of the control cavity, Heritage puts their labels there. Looks like a H-150SP Gold Top. But by no means consider any Heritage an entry level guitar, but if you want a fair comparison, then think Gibson Custom Shop. That must of been one heck of a strat you traded to get that.
tulk1 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Peter, welcome to the HoC! That is a cool looking gold top. Love the dots on that model. Covered pickups leads me to guess - Special. Doesn't really matter in the long run. Nothing "entry level" about that guitar.
wjp Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Thanks guys. I read the label and its a 150p. Irrespective of the body wood the build quality, lack of weight and playability makes this a really satisfying guitar to play. I traded a mint American Strat Deluxe which I had for a year or two but just never played. Had a chance to look over it more carefully now and can see that the pup rings dont fit properly, looks like aftermarket stuff and whoever fitted them didnt contour them to fit the body. Also neck pickup cover appears to be loose so someone has been fiddling!! I will probably change then for SD's. Anyone know what model was fiited as standard? Thanks again.

Most likely it had the everyday, common Schaller PAF. Which, actually, is not a bad pickup at all. Schallers were standard on most Heritage solid bodies for years.
pressure Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have a 150p, great guitar with an N serial number. The pickups in mine were a Schaller in the neck and a Duncan in the bridge (with white lettering "Seymour Duncan"). I changed them out for Seth Lovers.
NoNameBand Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Nothin' like a gold top. It looks great and I hope you enjoy it.
FredZepp Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 There is something very special about a Goldtop built at Parsons St. in Kalamazoo.... great guitars with that old Kalamazoo mojo.
shook494 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Looks sweet. I would take a 150P any day. They are very nice guitars. Welcome.
Blunote Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Welcome to the group. I have a black H150P (among others). It's comfortable, light, and probably gets more play than my other Heritages.
mark555 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Welcome to another Brit on the forum, I was down in Bristol earlier this year.. Actually, I used to love in Bristol back in 70-81. Nice guitar you have there.
H Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I used to love in Bristol back in 70-81. This is NOT the place for that sort of stuff!
