MartyGrass Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 2009 with a truly beautiful midnight blue burst. The blue transitions to black at the edges, rims and neck. Even in the center the blue is dark and rich. I've never seen anything like this. Very tasteful. These are cell phone pics plus some old ones by Skydog. But they convey the coloring pretty well. Skydog had it new, then it went to California, spent the summer in New York, and is now preparing for a neck warping Michigan winter.

Very nice wood package on that one!

blueox Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 HRWs, gold plating, wood grain, finish, inlays, . . . Now, that is a very attractive package.
GASguy Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 As you said, MartyGrass, that guitar is truly beautiful. And, from my own personal experience, it is easy to like an H-555 with HRWs.
Horace Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 One of the nicest I've seen on this ( or any other ) forum. Horace
DetroitBlues Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 That is truely stunning... Thought I wanted a red 535. Now I want a blueburst 555....
hinesarchtop Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The guitar is stunning...........however, I'm a serious wood junkie, and absolutely love the hand carved chair in the pic. Mark, I'll trade you my antique Duncan Phyfe table for your chair.............I'll even throw in a pic of me pretending to be Joe Pass' buddy.
the jayce Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Beautifull guitar indeed! But just out of curiosity,,, why do these guitars change hands so frequently? This one sounds like it's had 3 owners in less than 2 years. Just curios as to why? Regardless its a beauty never the less. Wish i had one

DetroitBlues Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Oh well, your Christmas present (Cherry Red 535) now being re-routed.... Beggers can't be choosey... I'd take a hot pink 535 as a present! Besides, I know a guy who can refinish guitars...
MartyGrass Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 I always wrestle with HRWs to get the sound out of them I want. The bridge is always very bright, more than normal hot pups. Last night I balanced the pickups heights while bringing the bridge cover pretty close to the strings. I also used pure nickel strings. Both of those seemed to help. My amp has a true equalized, so I can tamp down the high frequencies without affecting the low. That works well. If I were building a guitar from scratch, I'd put the bridge pup about a half inch closer to the neck to warm it up a bit. The neck pickup is amazing.

I'm not sure why he didn't bond to the blueburst, but he tried. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/topic/12583-ngd-with-mixed-feelings/ http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/topic/13084-selling-my-h-555-blueburst-golden-eagle/page__p__160056?do=findComment&comment=160056 The recent seller had financial problems and needed to liquidate six H555s and three H157s.

First of all, congrats on scoring that gorgeous blueburst 555! As for the HRW's, have you considered reversing the bridge p'up? That would get the magnets farther away from the treble area nearest the bridge. Also, I find that heavier gauge strings and thicker picks help darken or mellow out HRW's. Play it in good health!!

Last night I did think about reversing the bridge pup. I'm not sure it would help. Wouldn't it just switch which bobbin is closer to the bridge? And aren't the bobbins equally wrapped? It would move the screws toward the neck. So it could be helpful if the screw coil is dominant. I'm using Curt Mangan Pure Nickel 11-52s. I don't want to go to 12s. http://www.curtmangan.com/products/electric-guitar/pure-nickel/ I'm playing fingerstyle without nails or picks. I can't go any thicker there either. Next string change I could flip the bridge pup.
FredZepp Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Tasteful indeed ! That deep blue is a great look. And I've always loved the inlays on a 555... That has to be a delicious guitar to play.
H Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I always wrestle with HRWs to get the sound out of them I want. The neck pickup is amazing. I have the same feelings about them. The neck pickup in my 170 is, without doubt, the most amazing humbucker I've ever played.
tulk1 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I always wrestle with HRWs to get the sound out of them I want. . Same here. I want to like those pickups. And at times I have. But they've never performed for me live as I'd like. As for the Blue H555, never been a fan of blue guitars. But that uber deep blue with the great flame, and then the fade to black burst - that's working!!!

JackBaruth Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I should have bought it. I have a red H555 and a green H555. This would have really made for a set. While I was thinking about it, a more decisive man took action.

Doc has a great collection, and is a very easy to deal with seller.
