Gitfiddler Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 OK, maybe this belongs in the 'for sale' section of the HOC, but I thought I'd start this thread in the Amplication section due to the DIY nature of this amp kit. We have a few amp builders here and I was wondering what you guys thought of this type of home build. http://tubedepot.com...+building+today
DetroitBlues Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I'll go out on a limb here, but I'd imagine you could piece one of these together yourself for 1/2 that price.
mars_hall Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Nice video. Bruce Egnater used to have a seminar where folks would come together and build one of his Marshall modded kits from scratch.
H Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I think JJKrause built one of these or something very similar.
tulk1 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Okay, first --- WOW!! How friggin' cool is that? Good, clean build, too. They make it look SO easy. And we know it's not. I think my fav part was twisting the 3.5ft of wire down to 3ft. Sometimes it's the simple things.
TalismanRich Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Wow, that's easy. I've got 15 minutes to spare this weekend. Maybe I should order one! Thankfully, my days of wanting more amps has passed. Yup, don't need another one. Got plenty. Absolutely finished buying amps!
jjkrause84 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I think JJKrause built one of these or something very similar. Yeah, built a Metroamp JTM45. I don't get what a JTM45 "plus" is?
212Mavguy Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Those that choose to build one like this not only have it, they built it, will be able to fix it, know how to change what they built to their liking... ...and are free of having store bought tone... This is a decent price, BTW.
jjkrause84 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 So, I looked at it a little bit....it's really not a "proper" JTM45. More of a JTM50 or a 198x as far as my 36 second glimpse revealed.

This is a decent price, BTW. Well said! This is indeed a decent price, especially considering it is all inclusive with head cab and all. Anyone who is handy with a soldering iron, can read and follow a layout/schematic, can follow proper electrical safety precautions, and has the DIY spirit should perhaps give this kit some consideration.
bolero Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 heck I'd rather buy a vintage Traynor YBA, you can get them for less than $500 all day long
Blunote Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 A neighbor of mine started the "18 watt" discussion group many years ago. The was the genesis of many of these Marshall kits. He sells several kits under the name GDS. Like Egnater, he'll occasionally host a 2 day seminar where newbies can build their own under his tutelage (love that word, tutelage). His kits aren't lowest cost of those available, but they come with detailed instructions. One of these days I may buy one from him. That way if it ever needs repair, I'll have local support.
jjkrause84 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 The was the genesis of many of these Marshall kits. Please forgive me, it's essay-grading season, but.....what exactly are you trying to say here?
TalismanRich Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Yo, JJ... we don't gotta use no kings english hear, does we? Like Bluenote, my fingers have OFTEN gotten ahead of my brain, which leads to just this type of error. I'm sure he meant to say "that" or "this". As for Genesis, they were never quite the same after Peter left. ..................... We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion, already in progress.
DetroitBlues Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 .... my fingers have OFTEN gotten ahead of my brain, which leads to just this type of error. I'm sure he meant to say "that" or "this". My number one problem whenever I write a post...
Blunote Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Since it's essay grading season, I've awarded points to those who correctly figured it out.
