This is my first Heritage guitar and i'm hooked. What an amazing instrument! Such presence and sustain

My only question is this... Is it normal for a 535 to have some fret buzz near the nut (1st and 2nd frets low EAD)

Its only really noticable when playing without an amp but its enough to put me off when practicing..

Maybe as i've come from a Rickenbacker 330 with high action i'm used to no buzz at all.

Your collective knowledge is apreciated. Absolutely chuffed to be part of the Heritage family :)

Welcome aboard Andre, no have not heard of that peculiarity, so perhaps your 535 just needs a little tweaking. 535's are awesome!

Hi Andre, very nice 535 :)

Sounds like you need the nut cutting a little higher, mine buzzes a little like that before I filled the slots and re-cut it.

Have you got a British connection, Andre? 'Chuffed' is a very British turn of phrase. I'm English and there are quite a few European members here.

Welcome to the HOC :)

Gorgeous, Andre! I have five Heritages, all terrific, but the 535 is something very, very special! Enjoy! And, yes, as covered above, I'd check the neck and truss rod first, but most likely, the source of the buzz is at the nut. Might want also to check the nuts which tighten down, to hold the tuners.

did you buy it new?

if so, they should be able to fix it

that often happens if the gtr is setup for one string gauge & it gets strung with something else

like the other guys said, a setup/raise the nut a bit...not a big deal

congrats!!

Welcome.

a 535 was also my first Heritage. Hooked me for life. i am on my third, and patiently hunting for a fourth (a Millie).

+1 on the above buzz fix comments.

Gorgeous 535. your photo shows off the confused grain....vertical grain with horizontal flame. Hope to hear more about it after the setup. What p'ups does it have onboard?

It could be as simple as a truss rod adjustment. If it's a little tight it could make the strings rattle on the first couple frets.Or, as previously mentioned........If you are using smaller gauge string than the nut was cut for you could get a rattle.

Welcome to the club! You qualified with a very nice axe. With an H-535, you can be justly proud.

I hold my head high and say that I love high action and a little relief in the neck. I owned a ruby 360, now owned by one of my best friends. It had high action - as it should have. No buzz, great tone and the possibility of playing slide if you wish.

Raise the bridge on that 535 then turn the truss rod nut about 1/4 turn, sit back a few days and see how nice that 535 plays for you. I have my 535 & my 357 set up like this and love it.

Like Slate says, a 535 is something special. Here's mine.

Welcome to the club and congrats on a beautiful 535. It does have an interesting grain pattern. Are the pups Seth Lovers?

Welcome to the HOC!

Really beautiful wood on your H 535, very nice flame and figure in the top.

Enjoy that beauty.

Welcome to the club, enjoy your new toy. As for your fret buzz, as people have mentioned, there are a few different things that could be the cause, in almost all cases for buzz near the nut it's an easy fit. I had a similar problem problem show up on my milli-DC not too long after I got it. One day it was fine, and one day wasn't, and was explained to me as likely being a past nut repair that failed. I'd check the nut height out before messing with truss rod. Basically if you fret the guitar on the 2nd fret and the string frets out on the first fret, then your nut height is too low, and that was my problem. My choices were a new nut, or a repair, basically a $25 versus $45 repair. I ended up just putting a new one on there since there wasn't much difference in the price.

Good luck with the buzz, and I hope you and your new acquisition make beautiful music together.

Hi Andre, where are you from? Great looking guitar, well done on getting that one. My 555 is with a tech right now having the same problem cured, all of a sudden the bottom open E busses like no tomorrow, so I have taking it in to be sorted out, have the frets stoned and polished, it will be superb when I get it back. Enjoy having such a wonderful guitar.

I have an H-535, very similar to yours, I'm the third owner. The second owner gigged with it a lot, so it had a bit of fret wear that caused some pretty major buzzing. Brought it to a good tech (Rockhaus in Milwaukee) and after a thorough setup and fret dressing, it plays like a dream. Heritage guitars are very special -- the Rockhaus guys asked me "how much did you pay for this thing" and when I told them it was a straight-up trade for a Strat, their response was "well, there are a million strats in the world..."

Play that bad boy -- fine instruments NEED to be played!

Enjoy, and congrats!

My only question is this... Is it normal for a 535 to have some fret buzz near the nut (1st and 2nd frets low EAD)

If it's in the 1st and 2nd fret, I would try loosening the truss-rod first.

If that does not work, then +1 on the readjusting nut height.

If buzzing is on only a couple of strings, you might want to change the nut.
