MartyGrass Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Here are the specs. The pics look exactly like the one making its way to me. http://www.edroman.com/detail_sheets/heritage_blues_deluxe_d733.html This is a little more tricked out than a regular Prospect. The important features for me are the center block for feedback control. I also like an ebony board for brightness. This particular guitar's label says Prospect Blues Deluxe. No Ed Roman. My earlier one had Ed's name on the label.
hinesarchtop Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 That is superb! I would order one like that. Please give tone report.
Steiner Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I've always had a soft spot in my heart for blondes. She's a hottie!
Millennium Maestro Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Bridge pickup should ohm out around 14K, hope you like hot pups!
tulk1 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Loves me the Prospects. Whether they're ER's creations or straight from the 'zoo. Is that a VIP system or just coil taps/splits?
MartyGrass Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 It's a VIP system. I know the BBs are hot. The need to be for good splitting. I have a set of a slightly cooler pup, the Rio Grande BBQs. And there's always the P-Rails. I googled Black Backs and found tons of comments. In general, about half feel they are painted SD Custom Customs and JBs. One guy measured them at 8.4, not a high resistance at all. So the pups are mystery meat from SD. MM, you probably know exactly what they are.

Gitfiddler Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Wow, that is one HOT looking Prospect/Blues Deluxe/Custom/etc...!! Marty Grass scores another winner!
FredZepp Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I have a single BlackBack in my VIP I , and enjoy it . The guitar is more of a "rocker" than a prospect, but also working the volume/ tone yields different tones.. Very nice prospect , BTW.

I have and '02 535 that appears to be an ER spec'd guitar. I personally agree that they are painted SD's, in my case, pretty clearly labeled... I have a single BlackBack in my VIP I , and enjoy it . Agree with these comments also, using the knobs through a responsive amp still gives lots of variation. I've got a split CC in another guitar, and it's 2 distinct tones. What's the vintage? Gorgeous....

They are two conductor unless you perform some serious humbucker surgery....
MartyGrass Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 The Black Backs have this secrecy about them. But so do HRWs. The difference is that no one claims that HRWs are just relabeled Schallers. They obviously are quite different.
Millennium Maestro Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 one word of warning...for Black Back seekers, I have seen alot of bulk pickups that are identified 59's, JB, custom custom etc that appear to be factory builds with excess remaining black backplates. So it looks to me that anything can be now aquired with a black back plate. The E. R ones should have a traditional output on the neck pickup and around 14k in the bridge(JB is 16.4k) Congrats again Mark
bolero Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Ah I thought this was about gtr finishes....interesting never heard of those pups
FredZepp Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 The unusual visual feature that I've seen on SD Blackbacks is that the font for the "Seymour Duncan" on the front is noticeably smaller than the usual. ( although I can't say for certain that they've never done that with another pickup ) And mine does have a mini toggle for split coils.

FredZepp Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 ...check! Very nice 535 . ER seems to have liked to put BB's in Heritages. Very often he also did wiring that allowed split coils...
