smokedtires Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Hello all, I just found your website as I was trying to figure out my H140's serial number. I now see that it was made in 1997. This is my pride an joy electric so it doesn't get taken out as often as my beater axe I haven't seen any others like mine so I think it is a bit unique. PUPs were changed from the Shallers to a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. I changed the tuners to Grovers. Of course I saved all the oringinal equipment incase I should like to turn it back to stock
Guest HRB853370 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Hello smokedtires, that is a gorgeous 140! I didn't realize Grover made that style of machine-looks like a vintage Kluson. Nice axe man and welcome to HOC!
kbp810 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Welcome to the HOC Smokedtires Very nice classic and classy looking H140! Did you keep the VIP wiring with the new pups?
DetroitBlues Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Welcome to the HOC. I have the same pickup set in my 140. Great looking guitar, be sure to stick around, this is a great forum to be a part of.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Nice ! Sometimes when VIP switching is installed the pickup selector switch is moved down to where the pots are, some 150 /157 s have also been seen this way.
smokedtires Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words! Very excited about finding this site, I'm sure to learn alot! I'm not sure what VIP means, but I did keep the PUPs wired so I can split them, really nice when wanting a clean sound.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 VIP = var i phase Check out the Heritage site for more info ... http://www.heritageguitar.com/dvip.html
DetroitBlues Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 VIP is sort of like the six position chicken head knob you find on the Gibson Lucille (BB King's guitar). Instead of a rotating switch, you have mini toggles...
smokedtires Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Thanks DetroitBlues. In that case I do still have the VIP then
barrymclark Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Welcome! Killer 140! Whoever did the switchout on the pickups did it right!
FredZepp Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 That's a sharp 140 ! With those pickups and that wiring, it must be a pleasure to play. Good stuff there !
mark555 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Hi and welcome, looking forward to reading your posts.
