hokenfloken Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I've been trying to decide for the past week whether to get this guitar. You guys have been VERY helpful in helping me get some more insight into this bad-ass guitar. http://elderly.com/vintage/items/30U-17042.htm I finally went to take a look at it today at Elderly. Wow! It is even more gorgeous in person than it is in the pictures. It has more of a dark orange finish to the top. The inside of the wiring cavity is notated as "antique orange". The back and sides are actually a dark, rich wood-grain, much more than in the picture. And the thing plays beautifully. The guitar was sold as-is and needs a setup but it already plays like butter. I think this was one of the best purchases of my lifetime. I'm in love. I'm sure you guys understand. My wife asked me if I'm gonna bring it to bed tonight. I haven't given her an answer yet.
knopfler74 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I just bought my first Heritage today, so congrats to you too!!!!!!!!!! That one looks awesome! I managed to pick up a 157 used from a music store owner and it's in near mint condition...I'm also IN LOVE! I put a pic of mine below... My advice? Bring the guitar to bed! BTW: noticed the home brewing thing on your profile. I live in Bar Harbor, Maine right now, and we have some mad awesome micro breweries here. Atlantic Brewing Company and Bar Harbor Brewing company....awesome beer! Peace
GASguy Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Welcome to the HOC. I have always liked the Heritages that I have seen in an orange finish and yours is no exception. The orange looks great with the binding on that guitar, and I'm shure you will love it even more as time goes by.
DetroitBlues Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Glad you got that guitar, I knew it was a special guitar. Hope to see you and the guitar at the next PSP.

Yes, I am definitely a huge beer geek. Michigan also has an amazing beer scene, as you may or may not be aware. I haven't had a lot of Maine beer and neither of the ones you mentioned. I have had Smuttynose. I've also had some Allagash. Also, just yesterday, I drank a can of "Heady Topper" from "The Alchemist" in Vermont. The can came to me via Washington D.C., where a friend of mine lives. Really really tasty stuff. If you haven't had it yet, do yourself a favor and get some!

Thanks for your advice on this. I definitely plan to go to the PSP next year. My wife and I will make a day of it. And I always love an excuse to go to Bell's Eccentric Cafe!
hokenfloken Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for all the hellos! It will be good to have another awesome forum site full of great people. I'm already pretty active at beeradvocate.com and homebrewtalk.com too. Do any of your guys belong to those forums?
mark555 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Welcome also to Knopfler 74, you have a nice guitar and I shall look forward to getting to know you both in cyber space. Although I myself do not drink, I went on a tour of the Black Sheep Brewery in North Yorkshire last year, they brew some pretty potent stuff there, special beers for competitions brewed to 8.9%. If you are into independent brewers of beer, look them up on the internet.
mark555 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 http://www.blacksheepbrewery.com/ In fact, for our new brothers on our forum, here's a link.

Thanks, and yeah, the picture doesn't really do it justice. I took it with my phone really quickly to text to a friend. I'll check out those beer suggestions as well. If I had to recommend one of the Bar Harbor beers I would recommend what they call "Real Ale" and Atlantic Brewing's "Blueberry Ale" - I know Blueberry Ale probably sounds nasty, but nearly everyone who tries it says "Wow, that was awesome, way different than I'd expect." FWIW This forum is awesome, where else can you start a thread with guitar pictures and end up on microbrews? Too Cool! Peace
knopfler74 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Here's another pic of my new git. It's sitting in front of a 112 cab I recently built for the fun of it - came out pretty well for a first attempt, actually
FredZepp Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 That orange 140 was a great choice. What a wonderful first Heritage!! I've got a red '89 140 that is very similiar and it is amazing.
Guest HRB853370 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for all the hellos! It will be good to have another awesome forum site full of great people. I'm already pretty active at beeradvocate.com and homebrewtalk.com too. Do any of your guys belong to those forums? You guys WOULD have to bring up beer! I love trying out all kinds of microbeers. I have myself convinced that I could never successfully brew beer, but maybe you could convince me differently!!! Here in Atlanta, we have Sweetwater which is the main microbeer here but Terrapin out of Athens GA is giving them a nice run and their beer is awesome. Michigan, especially the western part has a ton of microbreweries as you already know Hokenfloken! Founders beer is world known!!!

I appreciate you reposting the photos to the form for me. The webpage will probably be down in the next few days. Thanks a lot.

If you're detail-oriented, there's nothing you can't duplicate at home as far technique is concerned. I agree that I'm pretty lucky to live in such a good beer area. It's really fun. By the way, that's one of the most ridiculous gear lists I've ever seen. I'm very impressed.

I have no experience brewing beer but will volunteer to sample any product.

Well thanks, but if you saw Jack Baruth's gear list (he doesn't put it in the signature, there wouldn't be enough free web space), it dwarfs mine! How would you recommend I get started in brewing beer, and yes I am detailed oriented (CPA).
Kmenne Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Congrats on the new guitar and welcome to this fantastic site! Guys, I can attest that Hokenfloken's new gem is better looking in person. In fact is is sitting in the office across from me right now.
