535 or 555 vs prospect?

They do charge extra for P-90s. And they charge extra to not have P-90s. Here's an example in a H530 with humbuckers. The point is that it is harder to customize and therefore there's an upcharge. That's completely understandable. The costs of the pickups don't vary anywhere near $200. But the cost of being different probably is higher than most of us would expect.

.... but seriously.

If I had to choose I'd go for a 535 with humbuckers. P-90s are cool but if there are any issues with hum or interference it will become expensive to replace the stock P-90s with noise free ones. With humbuckers noise won't be a problem, unless of course the amp is at eleven.

I agree with getting the humbucker routing. There is more versatility. But I'd add that if you thing you are going to be swapping out pickups much, don't get any of these. Get a guitar with a control panel plate.

I most definitely have an archtop with P-90s. If I later wanted humbuckers, there are limited choices. Oh, I won't want humbuckers later on this one anyway.

wow, never seen a prospect with P90's, that is really cool

555 has a maple neck & ebony fretboard vs. mahogany neck & rosewood fretboard on a 535 doesn't it? so a 555 probably has a bit brighter sound

How about maple on maple with single coils in a semi? Yet this guitar sounds wonderful.

I do believe the ebony board does add a little brightness to a H555 as does the neck. But neither of these compare to the brightness of HRWs.

Fortunately our amps have tone controls, which trump everything else.

Thanks everyone. So, if I read all of this correctly, I am thinking of:

Heritage 535

neck - rosewood (ebony board), special inlays, bound neck and bound head. Can you get a slightly wider neck, do they have this option?

body, thinking of chestnut burst to match my 150, humbuckers (HRWs if possible to get, or maybe try Lollar Humbuckers as I have SD 59s in my 150), double bound, no pickguard.

Anyone know the lead time to order such a beast?

Thanks

I've seen some lefty 150 or 535s with Lollars, possibly Imperials. As mentioned HRWs are no longer an option. Are you thinking a mahogany neck with ebony board and block inlays ? Sounds good, the bound headstock will set it off nicely. How about an inlaid mop Heritage logo on the headstock ? If you're going the custom order route you can also specify the neck carve.

hmmm, I guess I basically want a 555, slightly wider neck, chrome hardware.....that would do, lol!

Marty - what does a control plate look like?

My 555 is a 2006 and there is frankly nothing this git can't do--jazz to metal to country---I've got the schallers and like them a lot. Ebony board, if it wasn't movin' it got bound, inlay everywhere, no screen printing, gold hardware---it's just purrdddyy....and it's opaque black so the gold just totally pops. BUT I also have a 576 that is a very basic guitar (in terms of the "Bling" factor) that I absolutely adore. I love both guitars and have come to the understanding that it's just a matter of what I want. While the 555 does it all, it's not the jazz box the 574 just naturally is....and while the 555 can do metal all day, it's not the same as my LP...Country: it isn't quite the strat quack or tele twang but close! I really don't find one better than another--just different!...I really think it's all about where the player is or wants to be. It's great to have options...and w/ those options for me always seems to come GAS for the next sound. Wow---I wish I was rich---OH, check that--looking around at gits and family and...ummm Christmas---I think I actualy am!
