craigpriebe Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 New member here, My Heritage 575 has a spruce top, floating #3 pickup with volume control. When plugged into my Fender Blues Jr., it has quite a bit of buzzing unless I am touching the strings. When I plug in my Ibanez AF105 there is no buzzing at all, even without touching the strings. Is this normal with the floating pickup or should I have the wiring checked out for a grounding problem? Thanks, craigpriebe
Steiner Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Howdy craigpriebe! Welcome to the HOC and well into the depths of secret good tone amongst the 575 owners. I know what you're saying but a photograph would sure assist in diagnosing the sound.
GuitArtMan Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I have never, ever, ever, in 35+ years of playing, played an electric guitar that did not do this. Not Gibson. Not Heritage. Not Fender. Not Tom Anderson. Not G&L. Not Don Grosh. Not Rickenbacker. Not Michale Tuttle. Not PRS. Not Hamer. Not Ibanez. Not Yamaha. Not none of them. They all do it. Take a look at a Gibson or Fender or just about any schematic. You will see a grounding wire running from one of the pot casings (usually the vloume pot) to the bridge posts on a Gibson or the spring claw on a strat, or the bridge on a tele, etc. When you touch the strings, you are ground.

If you touch the strings and the buzz goes away, the guitar is wired/grounded correctly. If you touch the strings and the buzz gets louder, then the guitar is NOT grounded correctly. Also I think your Ibanez has a humbucker and the floating pickup is a different animal. I believe the floating pickups are closer to single coil pickups.
Spectrum13 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Might be some static electric. Try rubbin your 575 with some dryer cling remover.
craigpriebe Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 Thanks for the info. craigpriebe
DetroitBlues Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 The ground wire on my 140 is somewhat thin, I usually have a little ground feedback on it until I touch the strings or the bridge.....
