DetroitBlues Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Do 140's always have slimmer necks or do some have thicker '59 necks?
brentrocks Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 all the 140s i have played have been on the slimmer side
High Flying Bird Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 137s - at least the newer models are more of a chunky neck. The old 137 I got for my daughter has a slim neck.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 My '86 170, basically a double cut 140, has a smaller D profile neck and the '06 137 has more of a C profile and it's a little bit thicker.
FredZepp Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 While usually the older ones are thinner and newer ones more "medium" to chunkier, there are exceptions. My '89 140 has a fairly chunky neck, much thicker than my ASB 150 or my 157. And it's also thicker than my VSB 150.
Gitfiddler Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Fred~ Your 140 is my personal favorite!! You probably dig it a little too.
DC Ron Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Fred~ Your 140 is my personal favorite!! ++1

Steiner Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 While I have say I'm partial to your red FredZepp, it's those darn mini blocks on DBlues' 140 that continue to haunt me

That takes a small router and a steady hand! Who knows, perhaps you'll find yourself with a hollow weekend and start tinkering.
DetroitBlues Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 I thought about buying a Gold Top 140 and having the trap added.... But the reason why I'm asking, is I played a really thick Epi Les Paul Traditional Pro the other day. I couldn't believe how thick it was and how I actually like it better than my 140 neck. Makes me wish I had a thicker neck on it. I also played KBP810 '85 170 and that had almost the same neck profile. I have played many others, but I've read a lot of descriptions of other HOC members 140's and noticed most of them have thin neck profiles...
koula901 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Wow .. thanks. It's the cream knobs that really make it. I agree. The cream knobs do look smart on that!

Like you, I tend to prefer a thicker neck (just not a baseball bat). My 137 has a medium-to-chunky neck - very comfy.
